Mass Air Flow sensor removal

I have a P1101 trouble code and it appears that it's a MAF problem. I am interested in taking a look at the sensor to see if it's faulty or dirty.

I have 1 problem. I can't figure out how to disconnect the connector. I saw some sort of red clip and slid it, but the connector doesn't come off.

Does anyone know how to disconnect the wire connector from the sensor?


By the way... my car has only 50,450 miles on it.

1. Pull the orange tab.
2. Press the Black Clip under the orange tab.
3. Pull starting from the bottom. Not where you think you would. Not at the tab. Pull from the bottom.
I know it looks like the part with the orange thing is supposed to come off, but it's not. I don't know why it's designed like this, it made me think I broke it a few times. So just press down the black tab under the orange one, and pull up with the entire thing that you think it's connected into.

Thank you so much. Your instruction was very helpful. I looked at the sensor and it looked fine. Going to take the car to the shop tomorrow. It has a rough idle with trouble codes P1101, P2777, P2778. I'll cruise the forum to see what else I can find.

Woo! I thought my directions might have sucked. I know lately every time I mess with my intake I get a bunch of maf codes. I just clear them and then everything is fine. Try that before you give the dealer any money.

Did you try using a can of Mass airflow sensor cleaner?
A sensor can fail and look intact. A dirty sensor can affect the flow across the probes. I'd try some cleaner then try some electrical contact cleaner on the connector.
If that fails then your sensor probably went belly up.

It turned out that the coil pack went belly up. This caused those trouble codes. the sensor was fine.
