Coolant explosion

So my girlfriend drove my Sonic to work this morning. As she was pulling into the parking lot at her work, she hears a pop noise and then steam starts coming out from under the hood. She opens the hood and there's coolant EVERYWHERE. All over the motor and the ground under the car. But she can't seem to find where the coolant came from. This literally just happened. And my car now has 103k miles on it so no more warranty for me. I've never had any issues with the car. Ever. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I don't have another car to go out there so I have to call a tow truck and have it towed to a shop. The car has been perfect until this.
Oh by the way, it's a 2013 1.4t automatic. Completely stock.

More than likely it was a coolant hose with a soft spot and it popped, or loose and popped off a neck somewhere. Can't be too serious since it happened while stopped, or stopped right after.

From the picture my girlfriend sent me, I'm pretty sure it's the water outlet for the upper radiator hose. The plastic completely degraded over time and snapped off.

A common problem on the Sonic with age. Yo can get a new T-stat and housing for $70 or so on Amazon.

All metal or half metal half plastic.

Or . . you have a 1.4L maybe this part is what broke?

I concur it probably the water outlet. I had mine replaced.. the coolant was leaking from a pinhole crack in the plastic..

Its a bad design ...I understand using plastic but they should haved used a high quality that last longer.
