those home depot flex tubes kinda drag the kit quality down a bit.

European alum manifold is doubtful, the 1.4T is pedestrian there cuz they have a real performance Corsa 1.6T:

That intake looks pretty neat. Could we achieve the same effect by running a hose from the front of the car. From the fake side grille/fog light? Same general idea right?

Yessir, thats what the stock fiberglass tube is for underneath the passenger headlight, cold air intake from fenderwell. Could run a tube any way you like!
