Hi,
I'm pretty new to Sonics but I've had a love affair with cars since I was a little boy. I'm in my fourties now and I was just got a 2014 RS Sedan as a gift. It's nice. I was going to be happy with a manual LS but my parents wanted me to have something nice, so I started looking for a manual turbo sedan and some RS's were the only thing in town. I was lucky enough to find a 2014 with an additional rebate.
I was a bit sour at first. I've been into 4x4 and offroad for a couple of years now and was planning on getting a 4x4. The Xterra is the cheapest 4 wheel drive out there at $25,600.00 but what started this was that my dad has a GM card and they offered double points this month which came out to $3000.00.
So, parents didn't want me to have a truck (waste of gas) and the trucks were like $26,000.00 with no rebates, so I ended up looking at the Sonic after the Malibu and the Cruze. The Sonic had $2000.00 in rebates. The Malibu had $2500 but the sticker was like $25,600.00. So, with $5000.00 in rebates (free money) the Sonic looks better at $19,600.00 (invoice). I got $2500.00 for my trade. and I think my mom ended up writing a check for $13,505.00. Not bad money for a sports sedan, hehe. I think I did good rather than 19.5K for a Malibu.
One thing my parents do when they buy one of the kids something is that they buy the other two something of the same value. This is one of the things that influenced me to get the Sonic. When it comes down to it, buying me a car cost my parents $40,000.00. If I had gone for the Malibu, another $15,000 at least but I don't think I'd be having this kind of fun with it either. That's one thing I like about the Sonic.
It's no sports car, but I like the fact that it's tunable, especially the suspension, where I think a lot of cars could use some work in order to be fun and safe. Plus the RS is really nice from the seats to the stereo. I like the Bluetooth integration with my phone. That's a nice touch. This car has a lot of the same features that my mom's BMW does. I haven't had that before.
Anyway, I like the Sonic. I'm going to tune the suspension and leave the motor alone for a while longer now, at least until I outgrow the tune.
EDIT:I guess I went into the car deal so much for a couple of reasons. One. I used to sell cars. Selling cars might be in my future again. Two. We got a great deal on a bad-ass little American car. I'm proud to be an American and to use American products. Three. I'm extremely grateful to my parents for this gift. I've been disabled for over 6 years now and haven't worked much. To get a brand-new car of my choice, that's awesome and that's right. Out of the GM lineup, I picked the Sonic. It's a nice car, but I don't need to tell you.
It's bone-stock right now. I'm getting my Eibach's installed next month, so I thought the best place to start would be my stock car. Until then...
