Mods: I'll list what i did and give a review
Trifecta Full Tune:: Best bang for the $$$. significantly more power most noticeably in the midrange. doesn't take much throttle before it starts pulling hard, bottom ends a little better, topend and overrev is much stronger and No more ECM intervention at 6,200 RPM.
On "ECO" mode power delivery is similar to stock; very manageable but the throttle response and behavior is still vastly improved over stock.
Gas mileage is unaffected or slightly improved, there's so many variables so it's hard to quantify.
ZZP Catless Downpipe:: Improved the topend noticeably, turbo spools slightly quicker, and boost is a tiny bit higher .5-1 psi higher. Got quite a bit more turbine noise (open exhaust after 2nd cat). Did throw a CEL for catalyst efficiency. but a tune fixes this.
Ported Stock Intake: Spent a few hours and ground out the tumblers in the Intake runners and polished any seams. Big gain on the topend. Engine pulls much harder now from 5,000 RPM to redline. no noticeable change in gas mileage or low rpm response. (i did this before the tune) I also did a little work to the throttle body at this time.
Ported Throttle Body: Smoothed out and opened up the throttle bore and thinned out the throttle shaft as well as flushing the throttle plate screws and trimming the heads of the screws..... Topend is marginally improved and throttle response feels slightly improved.
Cold/Ram Air Intake: Edit:
Now with ZZP Intake and a sealed Airbox : Marginally noticeable gains but I figured it's worth about 5-8hp. With fresh air coming into the airbox from the fog light opening intake temps are staying within a couple degrees of ambient. Another benefit is that higher road speeds start to build some positive pressure in the airbox .
Ported Turbo and Exhaust Manifold: pulled the Turbo out and opened up the exhaust manifold and compressor intake and discharge. enlarged and blended the turbine and wastegate discharges and polished everything up. Took about 16 hours to do everything and got slightly better topend but nothing spectacular
Eibach Lowering Springs: These seriously improved the feel of the sonic. Stability is improved, brake dive and body roll are reduced, and the Sonic now feels more composed and agile on it's feet.
On top of that the ~1.4" drop gives the car a more aggressive looking stance.
DDM Rear Brace: This simple little rear brace massively improves body roll, the car stays more level under hard cornering. Turn in is improved and the rear seems more willing to follow the front end around a turn. And of course rear grip is improved. Not bad for a low cost and easy install upgrade.
TTR Solid Motor Mount: Really tightened up the powertrain, car feels much more engaging and connected now. Also improved shifting substantially. The mount does transmit alot of vibration to the chassis almost like a washing machine. but it is supposed to get better with some miles and frankly i don't mind it now.
Edit:
TTR Solid Trans Mount: Tightened up the engine a little bit more and cut down on the vibrations.
DDM Shifter Bushings: These really crispen up the shifts, definitely improves overall shift feel. Easy install and low cost make these a no brainer.
Lucas Oil 75w-90 Trans Fluid Change: I was getting a 2nd gear grind occasionally when ripping thru the gears so i changed out the fluid after reading about the switch here on the forum. Haven't gotten anymore grinding although it is now a b!tch to get into 1st and 2nd when its really cold out, after driving for a bit and getting things warmed up its fine but it is annoying, for the 1st few shifts when it's cold outside.
Plastidipped Rims, spoiler, bow ties, and most of the chrome.
