My Sonic finally got a little damage :(

Been away from the forum for a bit getting some surgery done to my Sonic

Almost exactly a month ago I was having dinner at a Mexican restaurant here in Marysville, WA for my stepson's birthday. I'm walking out to my car with the family and as a habit I almost always look for door dings and such before getting into my car.

Well I come out to find a little gouge just above the front bow-tie, obviously put there by the truck that had backed into his spot. No note on the windshield so I called the local po-po for advice and with no note it's a hit and run they say so they are gonna send someone out.

While waiting the guy comes out and fesses up, we exchange info and the next day I start the whole estimate process.

What started out as a simple repairable gouge and new bow-tie turned into a new grille as well

Which then turned into a new front fascia

So always check your car, this could've easily been overlooked, so far the damages come to $1800. Yikes! It should be done this Wednesday, I can't wait to get it back.

ya secondary damage sux but happens a lot more than people realize. glad the shop you took it to knew what they were doin.

Yeah, it's not that big of a place but they do shipping damage repair for the Honda and Ford dealer a block down the road so that's good enough for me, lol. In fact when I dropped it off there was a new Explorer there that hadn't even gone through dealer prep yet with both driver side doors off getting who knows what fixed.

Oh also (trying to see the silver lining here) I have silver vinyl bow-tie overlays on and since the front bow-tie was damaged they are replacing it and instead of vinyl they are paint-matching it AND the rear overlay wasn't looking so hot due to UV damage so for a few more dollars they are removing the vinyl from that one and paint-matching it as well.

I had misunderstood them, the replacement parts were getting there Wednesday, not the car being ready to pick up Wednesday. They weren't sure if they'd have it ready by Friday, it wasn't, so hopefully Monday, I WANT MY CAR BACK! :sadbanana:

You know. . I always thought that too. If the other guys insurance paid then it didn't count. Guess what. . it does.

I found this out a few years ago when someone did exactly the same to my wife's car. Backed into the front bumper with a trailer hitch and small "apparent" ding. Well, new fascia as well and some other checks. My insurance NEVER was involved.

A year or so later, insurance rates went up on both cars. No reason given except that the agent said . ."It's a company wide thing. MOre thannormal claims so everyone's goes up."

BS. .. I came to find out that there is an agency ALL insurance companies use to monitor and log ANY claim against an insurance company. IT is even more stringent today. I have this bookmarked somewhere but can not find at the moment. So ANY claim, even against another company or insured owner dings your record. They are all in cahooots. You have insurance, but they really do not want you to use it. One agent told me that minor ding incidents of under $2,500 are looked upon as frivolous in many cases especially if the car is over 3 years old and they consider it past it's repairable prime. Go figure.

Well, at least you don't live in Michigan... Insurance here is very expensive and the service isn't any better than anywhere else I've lived.
