i have seen alot of people asking if the thule fairing will fit on the chevy roof rack. so after looking at it and seeing how ctoohy did his. i thought i would do a how to with more pics to make it easier for others

i got the 38 inch thule fairing
then went to the hardware store and got

4. 1/4 20 x 3/8 bolts
4 1/4 20 aircraft nuts ( do to they will not loosen up )
4. lock washers
24 washers

take off the side covers and pull out the rubber strip from your rack

first i started with a dremal and a cutting disk. and trimmed the brackets that go to the rack . you can see where it was trimmed to here

also you have to drill a hole in the top of them so that the T bolt can go into

then put the brackets on the rack

remember that the two outside ones just go into the first hole on the bracket
the two inner ones go in the 2nd or back one. ( it can be a pain to get the two inner ones in and keep the rubber in place you can put a small piece of tape to help hold it.

then i used the 4 1/4 20 bolts and aircraft nuts to hold the bracket together in the place of the T bolts. ( i did put a washer on the bolt and nut side )

also do not tighten them yet you will need to adjust the brackets latter

next slide the T bolts into the slot on the rack

put the fairing up but dont worry about having it centered just yet.
i put 4 washers on each T bolt and them put the T bolt throught the holes that i drilled into the bracket ( you have to have something under the bracket do to it will flex to much when you tighten it down )

then i put the lock washers on top of the bracket this will help it from coming loose.

then you can put the nut one the T bolts but dont tighten just yet

( in the next two pics you can seen the washers under the bracket

at this time you can start playing with the fairing to get it centered on the rack and then tighten the T bolds down.

after you have that done you can adjust the brackets and the fairing so it site down on the roof. the two inner ones i just twisted till it was flat on the roof and tightened

the two outer ones i used a screw driver and put it into the back hole on the bracket to help hold it down so i could get it tightened down and hole the angle i wanted.

then all you have to do is take the rubber strip and trim it to fit.

and your done.

hope this helps out

also the yakima forklift rack if your just running one you can put it just inside the first bracket

i put mine on the outside of the first bracket do to i will have my second bike rack in a few days and the handel bars will not have enough room.

Im looking to get a roof rack for my bike and would probably use it every weekend. Have you had a bike up there for a longer trip? and if so, how do it do?

yes i have had my wife and mine bikes up there for the 2 hour ride up to maine and the did just fine. but just get the locks for the bike rakes. makes a little piece of mind having the forks locked in
