Can a hatchback Sonic take a roof rack without much trouble?

I'm going to be taking a bit of a road trip with some friends this summer and as you all know, Sonic cargo space is tight. So I was thinking about getting a cargo rack for my roof, but I've never used or installed one before, and I don't really know anything about them.

Can you put one on a Sonic without major car surgery? I don't want any holes added that aren't already there.

Are there any racks that you would recommend?

I recommend the rhino rack euro style if you really want to go for a roof mounted basket. But I think a hitch mounted basket would probably be better if you are going to be doing a lot of Highway driving (less drag).

Btw, That basket is just a basket. You still need a rack to mount it to.

I got a cheap removable roof rack from Walmart, it has rubber pads and straps that clip into the door openings. I only use it every now and then, but it works great, I've even carried sheets of plywood and stacks of 2x4s.

+1. let us know more details. does it fit well? apparently the doors on the sonic make it pretty hard to fit a roof rack to it.

I made a thread looking for what options were available. mods got mad saying that the other thread had all the info, but now there might be another option not mentioned.

twotails, there is a picture of the curt basket you linked to in the thread that I provided in post #2. It is installed on a GM Accessory roof rack.

Please, for the love of FSM, continue this discussion in that thread so as not to disperse roof rack related questions through various duplicate threads. If everyone would follow this simple rule, then all of the info would actually be in the same place.
