Automatic Gear Shifter button break

Thursday night the button on my gearshift exploded inside. I was stuck at a gas station with a car full of people, unable to shift out of park. I did look it up later and apparently this has happened to many others. Luckily I had a Stanley tool in my car, proceeded to pull the plastic off, pulled out all the broken pieces, and barely had enough room to stick a finger down inside to actuate the button to shift gears.

A 3 yo car that cost me $20k should not have had this happen to it. It was horrifying, embarrassing, and scary. Anyone know if Chevy will fix this?

It depends on your basic warranty unfortunately. Your 3yr 36k mile warranty. Ask your local dealer and they can help. Hopefully there is a bulletin on for it.

There is a replacement button but I don't know if its any better built..

You could also file a complaint with the national safety board..one could argue its a saftey issue if you cannot shift the car.

Automatic Shift Button - Sticking

The shift button on my automatic is now sticking. Have to bang it to have it pop out so the car can be turned off when i park. Any one else having a problem like this?

30k miles but over the 36 months, and this problem is nonsense...

Seen a few post on here about this, my problem is the +/- gear selector button is sticky/unresponsive on downshifts(less than 15K miles on the car). Seems GM really cheaped out on some of these parts.

Happened to me about a year ago. I felt the sammeeee way. Chevy did fix it at no cost, apparently you can't just replace the button, it's the whole gear shifter assembly.

The button is sold separately. Can be self installed or installed by chevy. I was over warranty when mine broke so I just paid chevy button cost and labor cost to install. I don't think chevy has fixed this problem. Still same stupid cheap plastic button. I am pretty sure mine will break again in a year or two.

I called the chevy dealer today with the part # 95393161 the parts guy said that was not a good # so I told him what I needed to fix my broken shift button he tells me that part is not sold separately I would have to buy a new shifter assy. for 140 bucks, I told him about the video on you tube with the guy showing the shift knob repair kit in a gm box with the # on it so I thanked the guy hung up and called another chevy dealer gave him same # he was able to cross the old # over to the New # 42423234 and order the part for $14.08 cents.

Good to know for future reference! The guys at my dealership always seem alittle.... Off. Haha
