what did you do to your Sonic today?

I'll start: Drove my kid to see a locomotive and took some pictures of it.

Drove it around in wet road conditions trying to figure out when and where I'd ever want traction control.

Verdict thus far, no really, never.

But it is snowing now so in a while I'll go play some more, prediction, still never.

Filled it up with gas this morning and went to work. found out on my way home that the ABS and stability are a complete joke in this car. Was making a decent turn and ABS kicked in, promptly went straight. ANother time stability kicked in once I had already straightened out the car from a little fun. Both happened at low speeds. The car lurches a lot when ABS kicks in. TC was not needed at all. Decent winter tires and knowing how to drive in the conditions make the Sonic a very fun car in the snow. You get odd looks from SUV and truck drivers when you pass them in a little FWD car.

I know the feeling all to well slitzell. Even in the winter, birds are always swarming the feeders we have around the employee parking lot, so my Sonic always has a fresh coat.

TC is definitely going off all the time, it's simply intrusive and I can't figure out anything good it does. Hit a slick patch on one side of the car and instantly I get cripple mode for several seconds, even though the other wheel bit in fine and the whole patch was only a few feet long. Similarly, trying to accelerate while turning off a side street on wet roads (not even icy) one wheel would slip a little and boom there goes any hope of getting out and going before the oncoming traffic reaches me.

ABS sucks when you might really need it, and kicks in far too easily. I'm actually afraid it might cause an accident and not at all convinced it will prevent one. It seems broken to me, though, I've driven many ABS equipped cars, and A) it isn't easy to get it to kick in and B) when it does, it feels more like driving over rumble strips, not like this where your car stops responding and starts pounding you in the face.

What did I do to my sonic today? I mounted my scan gauge II and took it out for a spin.

It still needs a little horsepower calibration, if I can ever truly calibrate it. Went out to the air strip in Berryville my buddy owns and ran it down the half mile. When it said 158 horses I knew it was way off. I doubt it will ever be right, but it's fun to watch. Hoping to get the bnr stage 1 kit ordered in a couple weeks to get it tuned and breathing better. I'm starting on debadging and wrapping the bowties tomorrow in carbon fiber print vinyl.

I have a long to-do list.

Chauffeured the missus and kids around in the on and off Southern California rain. She had work to pick up around town and I was off, so I figured it was a perfect time to kill her mileage results with my on ramp flogging. She tells me, "Wow, I never let it rev that high."

I tell her that it's necessary to burn the excess carbon off every-once-in-a-while and that I'm more than happy to do it for her. >

Manual mode sucks! Too much lag time thinking about shifting after you have already told it to shift.

My day in my Sonic was lame yet rewarding. Put in 482 miles in the tractor, which is a nice KW T680, so the 10 mile commute to/from work was nice and relaxing.
