what did you do to your Sonic today?

I would never choose a plastic part over aluminum when it comes to engine parts...never. Plastic doesn't stand up to the heat cycling of the cooling system.

what did you do to your Sonic today?

    I don't think so...I'm pretty sure it's only for the 1.4L

what did you do to your Sonic today?

The thermostat housing is on the passenger side and the outlet is on the driver's side. You're definitely better off just getting these...they'll last way longer. https://zzperformance.com/collections/sonic-cruze/products/zzp-1-4t-aluminum-thermostat-housing?zCountry=US...

what did you do to your Sonic today?

All that plastic garbage GM uses drives me insane!!! I got the thermostat/housing and the coolant outlet in aluminum from ZZP. So much better than the plastic junk. I'm getting the aluminum reservoir next.

High Mileage Sonics - the longevity thread

Latest update. 2013 RS 1.4L 6sp manual. Tons of work/maintenance already. Clutch is getting replaced in a few weeks. All new suspension, brakes, etc. Timing chain recently replaced. Mileage is 248,369. Should hit a quarter million in June.

High Mileage Sonics - the longevity thread

If you're getting a front end sway, it is likely the tie rods are worn out. Easy way to check is to jack the front up and try and wobble the wheel back and forth. If there is excessive play, than the tie rods need replacement. If there is excessive play in the up/down axis, it's likely worn out...

what did you do to your Sonic today?

Had to stop for gas before work...$4.82 for 93. Probably burn almost half a tank on my deliveries tonight. I sure do miss those $2 gas days.

High Mileage Sonics - the longevity thread

Dang I have been gone a while...the snail is still going strong. Just did inner and outer tie rods, ball joints, and sway bar links. Finally found my oil leak...gotta replace the timing cover gasket. Obviously I'll do the timing chain and crank seal while I'm in there. Odo is now at 246570...and...

Please help me figure this out

Bad coil pack? Have you cleaned the MAF sensor recently? I would clean the sensor, double check all the vacuum lines and wiring connections as a start.

    Smoke screen from exhaust

Did an experiment today to see if my PCV was the cause of the smoke issue. I blocked off the PCV inlet at the turbo and covered the hose with a towel to catch any junk coming out. Car still smokes and the PCV hose was clean. Looks like a new turbo is going in next week.

    Smoke screen from exhaust

I did that a while back...also just replaced the valve cover again. Still no change. I'm going to put an oil catch can in this weekend and hope it kills the smoke puffs. If not...I might be replacing the turbo again, since this problem only started after I replaced the worn out OEM turbo.

    Ticking noise

If you run across any issues, you can message me and ask. I have spent a lot of time working on mine to keep it in top condition and have nipped many problems in the bud before they became serious.

    Ticking noise

The P0171 is the pcv fail. Instead of replacing the entire intake manifold, cruzekits.com has a fix kit for the 1.4L that you don't need to remove the manifold. You will probably need to replace the valve cover though. There is a tiny opening on the circular part of the valve cover on the back...

    Smoke screen from exhaust

I'm having a similar problem when I replaced the turbo and the downpipe. I get a puff of bluish gray smoke after gear shifts at anything above 33% throttle. There's no oil residue, but a good amount of soot in the exhaust side. I had the Forge blow off valve on for a while, but it would spray...
