I think I might start a kickstarter to get money for this. I have been saying for more than a year this should be in the rs. If it was I would own an rs.

While I agree, this is a factory motor that comes with a warranty. And if u don't care about a warranty think about the potential of starting at almost as high as our highest hp sonic. With a tune you will likely be in the 300 range.

This one note in the warranty information removes the warranty from any engine swapped vehicles. Last I knew any vehicle made since as far back as I can remember would was subject to emissions certification and as such any modification that differs from the stock tested and certified configuration is technically no longer "street legal"
6. Must be installed in a “street legal” automotive application for use on public roads
So $9000+ installation and other associated parts seems a lot higher than what it would cost to build an engine to that power level and be reliable.

Well, you are correct. I suppose one could go thru the hassle of getting it re-certified. But let's face it, if I put it in my sonic it's not staying under warranty anyway if your gonna put $9k in a $17k car you might as well throw in another $5 or 6$ to really make it move

An engine swap would no longer make it legal though. You would be in violation of the emissions certification. Just because your state does not test does not mean it is legal.
this is false. every where ive lived (texas, illinois, california, washington, and south carolina) engine swaps are 100% legal as long as the engine swapped in meets the emissions specs of the model year car it was put into. so (if someone wanted to pay for it) they could swap a 2014 stingray motor into a 2012 sonic and it be legal because the 2014 emissions laws are the same/higher than 2012's

I had heard you must meet the emissions of the vehicle or the new engine, whichever was more strict.
Meaning installing an LS1 into a 1968 Camaro meant that 1968 car all of a sudden had to meet 2000s emissions requirements.
Not sure if that's B.S. or not but it sounds pleasurable.

SO the cost of the engine, trans, harness, ECM and a lot of custom tuning to make it all work together and meet emissions rules for the vehicle it is going into. Just because it managed to meet emissions rules for the vehicle the engine came out of does not mean it will meet the rules for the vehicle it is going into. I am sure that you will also find it some where that the vehicle has to be tested or inspected before it is road legal as well. I have not delved into specifics but there may also be issues with the class of car that the engine came from and went into.

I'm just going by the laws where i've lived. i knew plenty of people with LS swapped miatas, 240's, lexus's etc, and they were all legal with paperwork to prove it because the reasons i listed above

I don't have testing either, but I still can't tamper with emissions controls without running foul of the state motor vehicle code. They don't test, but can ticket and fine.
Same here but I used to drive a camaro with open headers as a dd, got pulled over plenty never got an emissions ticket. Maybe they are stricter in your area
Anyway back on topic, they list on another page a trans and a couple other things, wonder how much a whole set up would run.

Getting a fine for tampering with emissions equipment isn't similar to a $200 speeding ticket.
At all.
I don't know what it is now, but in 1990 it was a $2500 fine and is a federal offense so that also applies to TN. Something tells me that price went up since 1990.
EDIT : From what I'm seeing the current fines are in the $10,000 neighborhood for simply messing with a catalytic converter and all it takes is a cop that wants to be a prick. You like gambling with ten large CheapFuneral?
