Air Conditioning Problem

I have a 2014 Sonic LT Auto 1.4 t.....I'm so tired of it being in the dealership, I've had so much replaced on this car it's ridiculous. I have 23,000 miles on it. I just got it back from the dealer a few weeks ago. Just yesterday morning it was 65°F Outside so I turned the air conditioning off. Well once I got out of my 8:00 class it was 89°F so I put the a/C on full blast. There was a kind of buzzing sound once the a/C was on (not sure how to correctly describe that sound lol). I could also feel the buzzing through the floor, and pedals. Then the air would go full blast then slow way down, when it would slow down so would the buzzing, likewise once it sped up so did the buzzing. Seems like maybe a compressor? After a while the air will cool down, and the speed going up down will go away, it'll idle like it's supposed to. But the buzzing/vibration is always there when the a/C is on. Then once the car warms up, once stopped at a stop light for instance, the car feels like it's lurching foward bug it dosent actually move. (As if your pressing the gas while pressing brake pedal). Any help is appreciated!

okay, if the air coming in and out is rising and falling, I wonder if it's the blower motor. That needs to blow air across the a/c components in the dash with enough air to actually provide cooling....

The other thing I can think of would be the compressor clutch going out and causing a drain on the engine as it may be "stuck"


With the AC off the compressor clutch just spins freely, but when turning it on it engages... wonder if it's dragging it..

Might have someone in the car turn the a/c on while you look at the belt area to see if that buzz/noise is coming from there.

With the a/c off the blower motor works fine?

It's very odd....once the air is on for a minute or two, after going up/down in speed it will go back to normal. Not sure if it does it with a/C off...I'll update tomorrow.

Compressor Issues Too!

So, I was experiencing some issues with my a/c system too, but mine was more of the issue of the car lurching while going down the road (kind of a feeling like the engine was bogging down then freeing up again, but it was doing that every 3-5 seconds....VERY ANNOYING) and when I was idling I could literally hear the a/c compressor clutch clicking on and off but it was VERY VERY loud. When I took it to the dealership they diagnosed it and told me the compressor was literally falling apart and when they evacuated the system they found metal shavings inside the compressor which shouldn't of been there. They also found some in some kind of valve or something too. SO, they said they replaced the compressor and recharged the system and sent me on my way. I got the car back and for about a day or two everything sounded good......but it's back to the same thing again. One of the reasons I noticed something was very wrong was because the temperature coming from the vents felt much warmer than usual and thats when I started paying more attention and could hear the a/c compressor clutch snapping on and off much louder than usual.

Not saying thats what's wrong with your car, but just telling you my experience I had with my Sonic. Oh yeah, this all happened with around 2,800 miles on it, and it's a 2015 Sonic LT with the 1.4 liter and rollin with an automatic. I really love the car, and have always owned GM products, but I feel like I'm always experiencing some kind of issue with my vehicles :-(

Sorry for taking so long to reply. No even with a/C off and I "cold start the blower motor" it will do the speeding up/ slowing down. And it still makes the vibration. Don't have time to deal with the dealer right now my dealer sucks. And I'm almost to 24,000 miles so no more warranty

Vibration could be a leaf or leaves caught in the blower motor. If you have it on recirc, it could actually suck a reciept or something from inside the car in there. I would pull the blower motor out and look for any debris. Because if there is debris; they are going to charge you anyways.

Any idea how to take the motor out? Where it's located at??

You should have a 3yr/36,000 bumper to bumper warranty.
