Alarm Systems

I was wondering if I should still get an alarm even though I plan on continuing on star? Is it worth it? I already have remote start.

It is not worth it. 1. Your buying something that doesn't do anything the car doesn't already do.

2. Your going to have aftermarket equipment retrofitted into many advanced and intuitive O.E.M. systems. The results range from good (acceptable in my eyes) to down right crappy. As a tech I've seen many no starts, dead batteries, glitchy electronics, and oversensitive alarms all because of aftermarket systems.

My opinion is that they are crap and a waste of money.
My expiernce is that they often, (but not always) have issues.

keeping OnStar should give you all the comfort you need, it is unlikely any aftermarket alarm will offer as many features and be as reliable as OnStar and your cars stock alarm system.

I see no need for a redundant alarm system. One is enough for vehicle security.

The only gains you will see with an aftermarket alarm is additional sensors; i.e. shock sensor, proximity sensor, tilt sensor,...etc. Most of the time when a customer comes here I test their car for a factory alarm. 9 times out of 10 they have one and don't need to spend the extra money. I've noticed a lot of people just want the blue flashing light on the dash, mainly for a deterrent.

What does Onstar do? The dealer I purchased through installs Karr alarms on all of their vehicles. Part of having a Karr alarm is if my car gets stolen they buy me a new car.

my car was just recently broken into and i didn't even hear the alarm go off. it was my driver rear window was completely smashed and rear seats were folded down to expose the inside of the trunk. would i it be wise for me to get an additional alarm on top of the factory alarm already in my car. i also am using on-star for protection against in the event my vehicle is stolen.

Usually an aftermarket alarm would be made to work by itself. Seeing as its better than factory. Alarm systems are theft deterrents. If they want something in the car they will get it regardless.

Do we have actual car alarms? Or just antitheft devices built in? To me, a car alarm is an audible device that alerts in the event a sensor is triggered. I am not aware of the Sonics having this?

The stock alarm is very basic. If you let the vehicle sit for about a minute with the vehicle locked. (Locked by pressing the key fob lock button twice). Then reach in and open the door without pressing buttons, the alarm should sound, disabling the ignition unless the stock key is used.

I don't know if this is the right spot to post this but...
Has anyone installed an alarm and had an issue with the unlock wire? I just installed a crime stopper alarm on my 2015 1.4, manual trans LT sonic, and the alarm will arm and lock the doors but will not unlock on the unlock wire. I have tried
"Power Unlock- brown/white - BCM under driver dash, blue 27 pin plug, pin 15",
"Lock Motor- brown/yellow 5 wire BCM under driver dash, pink 27 pin plug, pin 4"
"Driver Unlock Motor- gray 5 wire BCM under driver dash, pink 27 pin plug, pin 1"
"Passenger Unlock Motor- gray 5 wire BCM under driver dash, pink 27 pin plug, pin 2"
I cant get any of these to unlock any door, the alarm disarms but the doors fail to unlock...
Also after 10 minutes, the car ecm shuts down and triggers the door trigger wire causing the alarm to go off.. I have the door trigger on "GRAY WIRE (-) PINK 27-PIN PLUG, PIN 22 @ BCM" is there an alternate wire I should be looking for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
