Cruze Diesel Turbo

Hey, has anyone ever pondered using the Cruze diesel engine's turbocharger on the sonic? I haven't been able to find much info on it, but It's a variable geometry turbo so it would be cool to see something like that on the 1.4. I'm sure if you could fab up a manifold and there was a way to tune the VGT it would be an awesome little setup. In theory of course. I just wanted to see if anyone else had thought about that and knew anymore information, or if there's something that would prevent it from ever working in the first place.

That would require a TON of modification to work, and that's even assuming the port spacing is the same. If you look at that turbo, the compressor exits out the left side of the vehicle, while the sonic's exits out the right. your exhaust would need completely redesigned, as would the intercooler piping, and intercooler.

If you look at the vehicle and engine you would see that the turbine housing exits in the correct direction, just in a different location. You can also tell this by the oil return line coming off the turbo. While the little turbo on the Sonic is down and to the rear of the engine, the Cruze diesel has its turbo high and to the front of the engine (front is where the belt is and the rear is where the flywheel/flexplate is). Both are mounted to the left side of the engine with the exhaust facing the rear of the engine.

Fitment aside, could our pcm even be able to communicate with the actuator to control the variable part of the cruze diesel turbo?

Our ECM cant control a diesel engine, completely different ECM hardware is needed to run the DI injectors. I dont know if you took a Cruze diesel turbo and installed it on our 1.4T if the E78 ECM could control it, but I'm pretty sure there are no tables exposed (at least in EFILive or HPTuners) to control a variable vane turbo.
