Do you let your sonic warm up

I was wondering if I'm wasting my time letting Hades (my sonic) warm up before I leave. So I was wondering do any of you earn yours up

However I must say since I've started letting Hades warm up it has let the car drive better in the cold but it seems my fuel economy and range have been slaughtered

So am I wasting time and gas or am I being good to Hades?

I let my car warm up for at least 5 minutes every morning.

I'll warn mine up until the window is thawed. I don't believe in scraping. I'll gladly waste the fuel to make sure my engine is thoroughly warmed. I don't move my car until its around 150 degrees

When I lived in Michigan I would start car, turn on defroster and back window thing then scrape all the windows. Drive away when done. If I didn't need to scrape I gave it like 2-3 minutes.

I like to warm up my jeep also. If i need to leave before its warm i just take it easy. low rpm's and also easy braking. slamming on your brakes when your car is very cold can and will warp your rotors

Hate to break the news to ya but this is a myth! opcorn:

A 2 to 3 min warm up is really one of the best things you can do. Especially if it is sub zero out. Engine go though super cold soaks and are started and run at Wide open throttle when manufactures test them. The most critical part of the complete thing is the correct oil weight that it was designed for.

just to clarify, you can run your car for hours before you go and I would bet your brakes don't get any warmer.

I always let mine warm up a fair amount if its cold out. Typically I wait at least long enough for the idle speed to drop even in the summer.

FYI, be careful with defrosters depending on how cold it is. A few years back my dad decided to start his truck, throw the defrosters on and go back in side. He came back out to a cracked windshield.

Now, it had a pretty good amount of ice on it and I beleive it was between -10. and -15F outside.

Point is, if its really cold out don't heat the glass too fast. I doubt this is a problem above 0F and who knows, maybe he had a crack started from a rock or somethign and didn't know it and this made it spread.

If you've ran as much equipment as I have and seen what happens to cold brittle steel you'd understand why I do what I do.

We may NEVER understand why you do what you do.
But yes, cold steel can do weird things as can sudden temperature changes.

I was just trying to help out. been told and have read that you should try and take it easy when braking the first few times if your car is very cold.

I never start my car and then go derping down the track or whatever. I take it easy for until I make it to the first main road, then all's fair.

My boss has a, I think 1998 Mercedes. He starts it and damn near floors it out of the parking lot every day ice cold. Doesn't even let it idle.

I have no clue how the thing still runs as good as it does with close to no maintenance and that kind of abuse.
