Evaporator purge solenoid symptom question

I have a '13 Sonic RS (53k miles), the car began idling rough and has a ticking noise from valvecover or rear if the engine. Sounds like what I have seen in YouTube videos and descriptions here for the bad purge solenoid. The car has NOT thrown a code. Can I unplug it while running to see if it stops as shown in YouTube videos or no? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Went ahead and replaced the part. Seems quieter, runs smoother and seems to have more pep, surprised on that part.

I seem to have the same problems. I drove my car with that ticking sound for 15,000 miles. I traced it to the purge valve solenoid. It was rattling badly. Finally, after 15,000 miles, a CEL came on, and I started to notice slightly rough idling. I have bought a new part, but cannot figure out how to disengage the wiring from the solenoid. There is a tiny blue clip, and a red clip. The red clip appears to hold the pipe only in place. Does the blue clip need to be moved to remove the wiring harness? These clips are very fragile, and I have broken a couple in the past.

I broke almost all my electrical clips but so far the parts stayed on. I replaced my valve but it has gone bad again and the ticking has returned. I wonder what it causing it to fail so quickly?

The easiest way to cause this part to go bad is by over filling your gas tank. If you aren't someone who does that, it could be the result of a bigger EVAP system problem.
