Fuel Economy Wars: 1.8L Engine vs 1.4L Turbo Engine [Automatic Transmission]

I am very curious to know how both the 1.8L and the 1.4L Turbo [Automatic Transmission] stack up with the fuel economy numbers.

With the 1.8L: EPA Ratings
25 city, 35 highway, 28 combined

With the 1.4L Turbo: EPA Ratings
27 city, 37 highway, 31 combined

But I what I am very curious about is, what are your miles to the gallon with either one of these engines with automatic transmission? Because I want to compare both engines and see what would be the best decision for me. Also the reason why I am getting automatic transmission is because it would be easier for me to work with and to use. Now I did a poll regarding which is the best engine to go with and th 1.4L Turbo won by a big majority. While that leads me towards the 1.4L Turbo I want to know from you is, how much miles to the gallon are you getting with the Sonic automatic transmission only with either the 1.8L engine or the 1.4L Turbo engine?

This is where I will make my ulitmate decision and a lot of opinions will count because this is very important to me and this will be my first car.

With the 1.8 auto, i get 36.6 mpg highway @ 70mph. when doing country roads @60 mph it improves to 41.4. I never get to drive in the city to give you city numbers though. Both the country roads and highway numbers are over a 9 gallons of gas to give a good average.

1.8 Auto. With a split of of 70/30 (with the 70 being highway) I am getting around 33mpg combined.

with a 1.4L with 6spd AT; all stock, my mpg varies greatly upon driving conditions.
Level ground 68 mph with cruise; 38 mpg.
hilly/swervy Turnpike through PA at 76 mph; 34 mpg.
70% highway/rest stop and go: average 32 mpg.

@ 80 mph: 30 mpg

note: AC is on under all test conditions.

our local sonic test car was seeing 44-45mpg at 70mph (tuned 1.4)

We also have several Cruze's getting 50+ mpg

It doesn't seem useful to just give perfect scenario numbers. I have seen 42-45 mpg on the highway under good conditions but steady combined use numbers seem to be better for what the OP wants.
