I wasn't cost shopping the day I bought mine.
I happened into a dealer that had an LTZ on the showroom floor. Saw it and was like, that's the one, and bought it.
I had looked at a couple of LT with up options but the one I bought fit the bill nicely and was my favorite color.
I think the black factory wheel package helped me along too.
I do believe most people buying are looking for the car that does the best for them at the lowest price and that is a good way to shop.
The dealer I traded in at also gave me a good trade on my work car at the time. So it was an easy decision.
Now after adding some upgrades of my own it makes me feel good every time I drive it.

When we purchased two 2012 LTZ Sonic's, one month apart; they had just recently been released for sale. They were hard to find then, and that hasn't seemed to change over two years later. We liked the LTZ trim level because we were used to optioned-up prior vehicles; but were looking for the same in a smaller more fuel efficient vehicle. The reason that they are more difficult to find is that there are more lesser cost models produced to satisfy the demand of the targeted sales demographic, which translates to the younger, sometimes first time vehicle purchaser, that the manufacturer perceives as maybe less affluent.
What the manufacturer doesn't realize is that there are consumers that appreciate the ability to purchase a quality smaller fuel efficient vehicle, without giving up some some of the features/options that are more frequently found on higher cost vehicles.

There's someone around me that drives a clone of my car, but they're always going the other direction. And by clone I mean if mine was stock. But they have the same color, the same body style, same trim level with the same options.

I've seen a few LTZs. 1 was either a 1.4 debadged or a 1.8, why? But most were LTs. The only LSs I've seen were fleet cars.
I made the mistake of cheeping out on my 1st new car and regretted it. Since then I get what I want from the beginning instead of trying to add to it later.

I think that attitude is changing based on what the new generation Chrysler 200 (assembled in Sterling Heights, just a few miles north of me) will offer. Not that the Sonic competes with the 200 but as an example that American manufacturers are starting to realize what other manufacturers figured out long ago.

Here in south Florida the typical Sonic is an LT hatchback with 1.8L auto. I've seen one LTZ, a non-turbo sedan. If there is an RS around here I have yet to see it.

PS - I have an LTZ (turbo, hatchbook, 6MT, sunroof) and I *love* it. But I could have easily been satisfied with a well optioned LT.

I bought two LTs. The LTZ didn't seem to offer anything I wanted.
If the LTZ offered a variable displacement compressor on the A/C I would've paid the extra money, but aside from that.
Now just in case I'm mistaken, or things changed this is what I recall an LTZ having over an LT.
Fake leather.
heated seats
sunroof
fog lights

Sunroof and fake leather are meaningless to me. Heated seats the wife likes but I never need. Fog lights would've been nice but not $1000 nice. Mylink I have no idea but something tells me I don't care. Does the LTZ come with an autodimming mirror? That would've been nice to have but still not $1000 nice.

Not sure but it does seem weird to buy the most expensive version of the car with the cheapest drivetrain.
Sunroof alone is priceless to me. It completely changes the interior feel. Cloth feels cheap. But would probably look better over time.
Heated seats I never cared about but now that I have tjem, they make the first 15minutes of driving after cold, fantastic.
Fog lights look great and really help. I wouldnhate to have a bumper where you can clearly see where fog lights should be but instead are plastic inserts. Looks cheap.
Mylink is great as well. Really makes the interior much more "upscale" feeling. Plus being able to set selena gomez as my background while I drive is worth $1000 alone.

I could care less about turbo. Not into tuning a car at all.

I'm in NW NJ, near Easton PA.
See that is the mistake it seems most make about the 1.4 turbo. In its stock form its complete objective is gas mileage. I get almost 10MPG more with the 1.4 than I did the 1.8 doing the same exact driving. The 1.4 does have significantly more low rpm torque than the 1.8, but that wasn't important to me.

Well I think the biggest reason for this is that you can't get an LTZ with a 5 speed. At least when I was going to by my car you couldn't..
As far as I know, the 5 speed only came on the very base model LS with no power windows and base model radio.
Other than that, not a lot of people who can afford a LTZ sonic would buy one, they would rather buy a lower model cruze.
I work at the biggest car dealership in CNY, and we hardly sell any sonics, maybe 3 a month, as opposed to 3 cruzes a day...
