Headlight Wire Harness Melted

The wire harness melted where the bulb plugs in.
Only a 55W bulb was in there. Anyone else have this issue with stock bulbs?

The front bumper doesn't want to come off, and the lower deflector will not come off to help me see (no jack/garage).
I'm at 52,779 miles and I'm getting annoyed with the design for this car opcorn:
I feel like quite a few issues arose immediately after the drivetrain warranty expired :banana:

This happened to me too at 10k miles. I just cut out the old melted plugs and installed heavy duty ones from autozone. Simple cut wire and splice new plugs in.

I was trying to take the entire headlight assembly out to run the new plug through.
Was a simple splice good enough?
I'm guessing you cut it right at the connection and left extra slack?

It rained on me and I had to call it quits after 20 minutes.
I need my DD though.

Yes I spliced them together with regular connectors, and heat shrunk it afterwords to make sure no moisture gets inside. Yeah now I have extra slack for sure but it makes changing bulbs easier if I have to in the future.

take your old plug in if you can to visually verify the correct type...
GOD FORBID they make a universal headlight connector

Wife took one of ours to Ohio on a trip a few years back. Apparently the squirrels or chipmunks in Ohio like the insulation, because it was eaten off the wires right behind one of the headlamps. Spliced on a new connector, no issues since. Really forgot all about it until reading this thread.
