finally found torque specs for the passenger side motor mount. the source advised using new bolts when replacing the mount. why is that? no other discussion of this replacement suggested that was necessary. any opinions?
Follow manufacturer recommended repair instructions. There is a reason why they tell you to discard the bolts. As was mentioned, they stretch. It reduces the strength of the fastening. It can impact wear on the mounts,or even more dramatically, affect the ability for the vehicle to protect you in a frontal collision. Those motor mounts determine where the engine is supposed to shift to protect you and your passengers during a collision.
I am bumping this thread. I have a horrible rough vibration in my car at idle (700-800rpm) in my 2015 Sonic automatic with 61k miles. I am wondering if it is the engine mounts but should engine mounts go bad after only 5 years or 61k miles? Has anyone else replaced engine mounts so soon because they were worn out?
Ok well I ordered all new mounts. Hopefully this fixes the vibration.
