porting the intake manifold

I know that this has been discussed before, but I couldn't figure a clear answer about it. will there be drivability issues if I port the intake and wait for trifecta to look at the datalog to send an updated tune? I already have the elite tune on my car, but I never asked for an ecp enabled tune,so im not sure if that's active or not and whether that will compensate enough for the car to drive down the road normally till its updated if it is.

I just don't want to mess my car up since I need it to get to work everyday. should it be ok to port it and drive it without an update? currently, my long term fuel trims are staying around 16-20 at cruising speed while the short term vary around 0.

Ported mine and had no issues.

Didn't need a retune. I drove it like that on and off the Trifecta calibration for a long time.

Your LTFT of 16-20 sounds pretty high to me. I saw high trims like that once when a vacuum line popped off and the ECM was actually compensating for a lean condition, but usually my LTFT's are around 0-3 at cruising speed. It would be interesting to hear what others are seeing, maybe it's a Trifecta tune thing, I don't know since my tune isn't from them.

looks like i'll be porting my intake pretty soon then. I just worry that with the fuel trims as high as they are, that the car wont be able to compensate enough for it.

I would like to hear if anyone else is seeing LTFT's like mine with a trifecta tune and similar mods.

LTFTs above ~5-6% = retune in my book. Some variation in gas quality is expected and will mess with them, but 16-20 means it's a shot in the dark for your mods.

Ported intake will be just fine even on the stock tune.

im not sure if its an issue with my car or the tune. I have had the budget tune on my car since it had 2000 miles on it. it ran great until it started to get cold outside this winter, then it felt like it was only using half throttle with the pedal to the floor. recently, I tried using gas from a mobil station only, and it seemed to be a bit better, but not completely. i was sent an updated tune (not going from a datalog) that helped a lot, but it still wont hold 100% engine load all the time on the ultra gauge when its floored.

im told that because of the cold weather, it is cutting boost because it feels its making enough power at lower levels, but its dropping down to 12 psi at full throttle around 4500 rpms.

i cant figure out what is causing this. i do have a ding in the bottom of the intercooler (i have NO idea how it happened), but i don't think that would cause this issue. i haven't checked for boost leak yet, because sometimes it will hold a steady 20-21 psi.

the spark plugs are gapped to spec. all the intake hoses are tight. the bypass valve lines are all tight on the fittings (bypassed the solenoid).

WOT- Tuning is going to send me an ECP enabled tune to accommodate the ported intake, but they were talking about the popcorn start when the car is first started? i don't remember hearing anything about that. anyone know what they are talking about?

im going to send in another datalog this week and see what they say.

There are a couple threads about this, search for 'trifecta popcorn' and I'm sure you'll find it. If memory serves it's a cold start issue that sounds like (or actually is) a misfire for about the first 20 seconds or so.
