Voice commands not recognizing phone book names.

After pressing the voice button, I was able to sync my phone to the car without a problem, but the real issue is when trying to dial a contact.

When it asks me for a contact or phone number to dial, it will not recognize even the simplest of things like Mom, Steve, or Luke. It understands numbers well, but for some reason recognizing a name completely eludes the system. All I get are the most random, "Did you say '......'", responses.

Is there a way to calibrate it to my voice, or something?

Interesting - the names/numbers I stored in the Sonic's radio work just excellent with voice recognition and anything else passes over very well to my Acer Liquid E android. I've even programmed in names and numbers into the Sonic while driving with no issues and they work spotlessly when called upon via the voice recognition.

As Danny said, you have to store the names into the car before you can use anything but digits or the "voice" command. The car can store 30 numbers with name tags. You can also use the command "phone book" and it will bring your phone's contact list into your stereo so you can select the person to call with the tuning knob.

If you can use your phone's voice control interface you might find that useful as well. I can access Siri on my iPhone by saying "voice" and use her to do lots of things, including dialing numbers in my phone's contact list that aren't stored in the car's phone book.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, or have something incorrectly set up on my phone. I stored a few numbers in my car's phone book (that feature works alright but I have questions about it). The problem I'm having is accessing my iPhone 4 contact list. I have not been successful bringing up my phone's contact list into the stereo when using the command "phone book". When I say "phone book", the car will repeat a few digits like "505" or "540".

Also, the Sonic's Owners Manual reads "The system can store up to 30 phone numbers as name tags in the Hands-Free Directory that is shared between the Bluetooth and OnStar systems" I'm curious what happens to the 30 phone numbers if I discontinue my OnStar subscription once the free 6 month period expires. Also, is this feature for car owners who have purchased "OnStar phone minutes", or does that matter? I guess what I would really like to do (but have been unsuccessful) is make phone calls using my phones contact list without having to store them in the car (especially if this feature is shared with OnStar). I'd like to say "phone book" and have the ability to see my contacts on the stereo.

OK, I'm an idiot! There is no "phone book" command. You simply press the phone/mute button on the stereo twice and "phone book" is in the list of options. "Call list" is another option that lets you select incoming, outgoing or missed calls.

As for the OnStar component, it will have no effect on stored numbers if you don't have OnStar prepaid minutes or an OnStar subscription.

OK, I'm an idiot! There is no "phone book" command. You simply press the phone/mute button on the stereo twice and "phone book" is in the list of options. "Call list" is another option that lets you select incoming, outgoing or missed calls.

Thanks for the response! Maybe I'm the idiot though! I was selecting the phone button on the the steering wheel. The first time I select it, the voice says "ready" the second time I select it, the voice says "good-bye". If I hit it twice in a row, the voice says "ready, good-bye". I was getting a bit frustrated. However, thanks to AndrewGS, I finally realized that if I select the phone/mute button on the stereo, it allows me to access my phone's contact list. Thanks for the assistance!

No problem! I just wish I hadn't given out misinformation in the first place. lol

I use the pass-through feature and call through my Droid X2.

You push the BlueTooth button, say "Voice" and you are now talking directly to the phone.

I wish the OnStar calling feature would work better though. I don't memorize phone numbers, except for some very frequent ones.

I've been having the same problem with my HTC Thunderbolt. I didn't know about storing the numbers into the car and I like the idea of using the phone book on my cell.

I have is will I also need my wife to also make tags for the
System to recognize both our voices?
