What is the rubber strip underneath the front bumper called?

Reason: I recently ran over (could not swerve in time) a torn section of tractor trailer tire on the interstate. The driver side of the stip was torn loose and I temporarily resecured it until I could get home.

It has since come loose again and upon comparing left and right sides it appears there is a curved plastic clip that I only have half of now on the driver side. I still have the farmost screw which is (sort of) securing a hole in the actual rubber. It appears the plastic clip broke around half of its length.

With that in mind, the stip is still good. However I need to replace the long clip that "shrouds" it on the driver side. Have no idea what it is called or where to order a replacement. Any advice on this appreciated!

Most of us call it the "air dam." Per gmpartsdirect.com, it is called the "lower deflector." Your local dealer should be able to get whatever part it is that you need. Or you could browse the aforementioned site to figure out what it is that you need. From gmpartsdirect.com, click the "Catalog" tab, then enter in the Year, Make, and Model info to bring up parts for the Sonic. From there, select "Body Hardware" from the Menu on the left hand frame, then select "Front Bumper & Grille." You should be able to figure it out from there.

It's the "oh crap at least I hit that and didn't crack the front lower bumper" part... my parent's driveway has this obnoxious low dip at the bottom...when not driving at .5mph it will scrape :blankface:

It is apparently called a "lower deflector spacer (left)" and costs $10.61 (zoiks! for a piece of plastic!). At $54.00 the rubber strip (er, lower deflector) makes the spacer look like a steal!

A lot of my research on this has read ugly on the necessity of the deflector altogether. I think it, because of its flexibility, has at least some sacrificial value to preventing damage to other parts, so I want to take care of it (that plus it's practically a brand new car : )

I need that same part. I had to avoid a ughh pick up truck exiting a service station on the wrong side, in the middle of the entrance/exit and pulling into the street. Nicked the curb :/

I drag that dang peice on the ground pretty much every day! if its not my driveway leaving and coming in, its going into parking lots with sloped entrances and always has someone sitting there so you cant take it at an angle to avoid scraping that strip. Would hate to see what mine looks like right now lol opcorn:

Funny aside: my Sonic came with an extra air dam in the hatch along with extra floor mats... for a Buick Verano :what:

They are built at the same plant in Michigan

My daughter already destroyed one of those lower deflectors. I got a replacement from gmpartsdirect.com. Easy to install. I suspect I will be replacing more of them based on how she drives. I wonder if I can get a volume discount?
