I have noticed that when I apply pressure to my brakes there is a weird noise coming from them. Its not a squealing or grinding noise but a creaking type noise. It's not very loud and I did not notice it until i was going through a drive thru with the window down. It only makes the noise when in drive but does not make it when in reverse. Its not a constant sound but only does it when I initially put pressure on the brakes. Does anyone know if this is normal for a new car with new brakes? I have never owned a new car before so I was just wondering if new brakes typically make this type of noise when being broke in. I have a sonic lt and it has about 1000 miles on it. Thanks!

If it is an electronic sounding noise I noticed it on the Cruze LTZ that I rented a couple months ago, but I have not noticed it on the Sonic. No clue what it is though sorry.

Hey guys I know it's really old thread but why start a new one. Anyways so my Sonic never did this before. The sound is like a creek when I break at slow speeds only heard when windows are down. The sound did happen at the dealer. They didn't find a cure for it. Is it normal will it turn in to something horrible?

My Sonic is 15,947 miles old. The dealer inspected the breaks and said they are in good shape. I treat my breaks slowly and nicely always.

It's just that anything that happens with the sonic I compare to my old civic I had even though I know they are very different cars.

I have not heard it on mine, but few would accuse me of babying my brakes. I wonder if a couple of hard stops going forward and another couple backing up might have some effect? Just over 24K miles.

You are compressing a multi layered backing on the pad, moving the caliper and pad on slide pins and retaining clips, and have several rubber boots/seals that move.
You could always take the calipers off, lube the slide pins and pad retaining clips, and inspect the pads for signs of the anti noise backing delaminating. A little lube on the backs of the pads helps some times. Also check for any build up on the edges of the pads.
Just an idea of what I am talking about with the backing.

Hey guys, I know this thread is as old as the hills. However I hear the exact same noise when I press my brakes too. It doesn't bother me anymore and I don't think its an issue. However I did disassemble my breaks and cleaned/lubed them up thinking it could sides of the the pads grinding against the hardware, it didn't work, the noise persisted.
