Just picked up 5qt jug of Royal Purple from Wallyworld for $41 with tax. RP jug says meets dexos1 specs. Not a bad deal.

I put almost 45k on the dexos1 rp oil. I like it. I normally bought it by the case at summit racing.
This is my second oil change, first do-it-yourselfer on my 1.4L. The dealer did the first at 3,600 last December, and today at 10,200 the second. I changed at 15% with GM Dexos1 blend. The procedure only took 15-20 minutes though I had to get a new drain plug after stripping out the original with a 12-point socket. The new plug is not 10mm but the new T40 which makes much more sense as far as potentially stripping. Evidently the drain plugs are hard to break loose after extended intervals or time. Who knows the dealer may have over tightened it during the first free oil change. I always go with AC/Delco filters and it was about $8 if I recall. The case if oil was under $30 as well. One thing that speeded up the process was I did not have the plastic belly panel to remove.
It is worth noting that there are "Dexos 1 Approved" with the official Dexos logo as well as
"Meets dexos requirements" or "Dexos 1 Specification".... Problem is, will the dealer really be able to find out if the oil I used was Dexos or not in the event of a warranty claim?

I picked a 5qt jug of Mobil1 for about 25$ with tax and I have not found anything to indicate that RP is worth the extra amount. Do you have a link to a site with tests regarding the 2 brands?

Just scheduled my *second* oil change @ 18,600 miles - purely based on the oil life monitor.
...and, I use Amsoil! It is offered at my local dealership where I have it done.

Honestly, if you go with dexos, it is $9.99, but I do full synthetic for $50. I never, ever thought I'd not have the time to change my own oil - but with a lowered car, having to go get everything, blah blah blah - $50 is a bargain.
Plus, they give me free coffee from their fancy cafe while I sure their free wireless. :banana:
