Hello everyone,
I have a 2014 Chevy Sonic LTZ 1.4T automatic that I've had for about 4 months now. It's got ~12k miles on it, and overall, I've been very happy. However, at the beginning of December, I had that weird problem others have posted about where at a stop (with the engine in gear) the car will shake and want to lurch forward. As I understand it, there is a TSB about this relating to the seal around the Torque Converter leaking. I didn't think much of it at the time because it had only happened 3 or 4 times and seemingly at random. However, after Christmas, I began to notice my fuel economy drop drastically - average of 33-34 mpg on a normal commuting week to ~27 mpg for the same amount of driving. The car also occasionally just runs really rough at a stop as well, as though its struggling for more torque while the engine RPMs have to jump up to keep up with it.
Last week, I scheduled an appointment at a local Chevy dealer to have them check it out, assuming the two problems were related. He drove around in my car for roughly 4 miles of suburb streets and couldn't replicate the issue (I was in the passenger seat for this.) There was no shaking at stops, and no lurching of the car. They sent me on my way and told me if it happens again to bring it back and they'd look at it. However, since the issues is random, I don't think they'll ever see it happen without keeping my car for weeks.
Since this issue is so random, and there isn't a dipstick to check the transmission fluid myself, does anyone have any advice on getting them to fix this? The rough running at stops doesn't concern me nearly as much as the drop in fuel economy. I drive my car very gingerly and hope to have it for a lot of years to come. This is my first experience with getting any time of warranty related work done, so I would really like to get it taken care of.
Thanks guys,
-Ben
