How many more production years does the Sonic have?

Hi Insanika, in Belgium we have an hatchback version of the Cruze and the station wagon version too.
The Chevy on you're picture is not the hatch.

I wanted a Cruze diesel wagon with a 6 speed manual when i went looking for a car. At the time, the only part of that equation that existed over here was a 6 speed manual. That is why I looked at the Sonic hatch. If GM produced a wagon, diesel, 6 speed option in a Cruze I would really think of getting rid of the 98 k1500 and 98 z24 in favor of it. As it stands I have not driven my z24 in almost a year. I just really enjoy driving the Sonic and am not all that motivated to start fixing the little issues on the Cavalier.

If doubt GM would adopt a diesel/6M combination in the Cruze (for the NA market). Yet I think a wagon and/or hatchback version of the Cruze could be very successful, with the diesel being a top end option.

I think there is a good chance the Spark might not have long term sales success in the USA. It doesn't offer the same sort of driving enjoyment at the Sonic, and it doesn't offer much better gas mileage. The smarter move would be to improve the gas mileage in the Sonic, along the lines of what Ford is doing with the Fiesta (1.0L turbo 3 cyl.) or offer a diesel, at the expense of investing in the Spark for the NA market.

Ahhh no not a cruze hatch I think people would opt for a cruze hatch over a sonic just because it's more popular... A wagon is fine I guess. I think the Sonic should be pushed more and spark dissapear. If a cruze hatch happens they really need to redesign the rear, it looks ugly from what I've seen IMO

I don't know. It looks too much like that Malibu Maxx and I'm pretty sure that didn't go over very well.

Although I wouldn't say it looks stylish I think the Cruze HB looks pretty good! But then again, at 57 I am probably more in the age bracket of the typical Cruze buyer than the Sonic buyer. I can see where younger folks will find the Cruze HB to be a bit too conservative.

Anyone else hear that GM is ceasing its partnership with Holden, Australia in a year or two?

The Sonic is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Gamma II will become G2XX soon and there will be a G3XX afterwards with more variations of the platform than there are today. There's plenty of room for Spark, Trax, Sonic and more.

Delta II, or D2XX (later D3XX), which underpins the Cruze, is also here to stay. GM realizes that small cars and CUVs are a good place to invest money and the coming Equinox is on this platform.

G2XX - Minicars, Subcompacts - Spark, Sonic/Aveo/Barina, Trax, Encore/Mokka, next Corsa, etc.

D2XX - Compacts - Cruze, Astra/Excelle GT/Verano, Cascada, Volt/Ampera, Orlando, Equinox, Envision, Terrain, Antera, etc.

Not happening. Holden IS GM. What is happening is that Holden will not be producing cars in Australia any longer. After 2017, nobody will be building cars in Australia. Holden will import Chevys, mainly from South Korea, and sell them to Australians and New Zealanders as Holdens, much the way it does today. The only "real" Holden left is the Commodore and production ends late 2016. I'm hoping that GM will build a Commodore on Omega and export it from here to there.

As much as i like the sonic chevy is just having a tough time getting into the good selling small car market. I think they would sell better if the base models like mine had better standard features. Like mine has crank windows and no cruise control, this is 2015 most people dont consider power windows and cruise as a luxury option anymore thats standard stuff along with a USB media input. If they start coming with better standard options and put a small diesel option in there they would be gold. They also must not sell that well, as in my area i see 3-4 times as many cruze's and malibu's. On a regular basis i see maybe 1-2 a day. When i bought mine the dealership had 3 2014 auto sonic rs sedans marked down to 18.5. Unless sales pickup the sonic will probably be gone in 2 years. I mean the Camaro's have sold right at 100,000 thats better than the sonic.

94,000 last year. When the Sonic came to market the goal was 80,000/year.

But I do agree a base car should have power windows and cruise control in this day and age and with the next generation Sonic due next model year, maybe GM will too.

While it doesn't sell as well as other segments, the Sonic is one of the best sellers in its class. Also, during the UAW talks, GM has stated it has no plans to move Sonic production from Orion. That tells me, at least for a while, that the Sonic is here to stay.
