I figured I'd start a thread containing the currently available LSD options for the M32 manual trans in the 1.4T engined Sonics.
ThatTmoGuy kind of got me on a roll when he posted a link to the Quaife diffferential in response to question from Preloader, so here's the three that are available with a very brief layman friendly description of what type they are.
Quaife: Search: M32, Quaife LSD
The Quaife is a helical gear type LSD. It is fairly seamless in operation, should never require any maintenance, and is generally an all around good diff.
It's only drawback is that it will act like a stock open diff if you get one of your front wheels off the ground. You hard core track guys that like to jump the FIA curbing in corners would probably be better off with one of the next two diffs I'm going to talk about.
Wavetrac:
Wavetrac® Differential - Application List
The Wavetrac diff is very similar to the Quaife in that it is also a helical gear type LSD. The main difference however, is that it also has a "locking" function that operates similar to the G80 Eaton/Dana locker found in Chevy and GMC pickups. This added locking function eliminates the one wheel wonder action that occurs when a drive wheel comes off the ground.
In my mind this is the best of both worlds and will probably be the one I purchase when the time comes.
MTS Motorsports:
Clutch type diff Opel M32 Transmission - MTS Motorsport
This is a full boat clutch type LSD as found in the ZL1 Camaro, many performance cars, racecars, etc. Being a clutch type, you can vary the number and thickness of the plates to change how the diff acts under both acceleration and braking.
The main drawback to this type is that it will require servicing from time to time as the plates wear out. If you're a hardcore racer and don't mind pulling the diff occasionally, this type is a very good option.
