Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

Thought I would make a post in here with real world MPG:

-35 MPG combined average so far
-2032 miles on vehicle ( I put about 20k miles a year on daily driver).

I have a 1.4L with the six speed manual of course.

I drive about 70 or so on the highway so my guess is that you could do better if you drove the posted speed limit. Also I don't like having zero power at the peddle so I almost always try to keep the car at about 1500 RPM, usually not much below that unless I know it is a flat road with little grade.

For people who are curious the car is at about 2100 RPM in sixth gear at70 MPH. Give or take.

So far love the car and it works drives really well.

Can people comment on how close the computer mpg calculation matches their actual mpg numbers and what transmission and tire diameter they have?
I would hope Chevy calibrated them for each configuration, but my malibu is off by about 5%.

My Sonic's DIC is off (high) by 3MPG.

Same here man... 1.5-3.0 always high. I reset after every fill and compare to calculated.

I'm getting 36.X mpg as indicated by the info center. My drive to work is 9 stoplights on a 6 lane (3 in each direction) rural "highway". The speed limit is 55 mph where I get on, and by the time I reach my job, it's down to 45 mph. I drive 60 mph in the 55 section, and I drive 45 in the 45 section due to traffic congestion.

I am really happy with 36.X for a city driving avg. I am looking forward to putting some 92 in it, which I will probably need to do at the end of this week or early next week. I hope to see a slight increase in MPG from using the 92.

At that point I will begin manually calculating my MPG as well.

Could anyone comment on what you see at typical highway speeds for MPG? As in not going out of your way to get good mileage but while on the highway most of the time.

Oh and interested in the 1.4 w/ a manual (but anything with a 1.4 would be helpful to know).

I do 90% highway and my habits are running about 80MPH. That's just the speed of traffic when I'm on the road and I tend to be among the chronically late.. Wondering how the MPG drops in that situation.

Searching through the posts didn't notice anything like that yet.

None of you leadfoot drivers can take your 1.4 out and run it at 80 and see what rpm and mpg you get for leaky? leaky, if nobody does this before tomorrow, I will take mine out on my local interstate and run it up to 80 for 15 or 20 miles and report back.

I've been running 75 and averaging around 32-33, but thats got some city and hills in it.

the onstar app is reporting 35mpg avg after 6400 miles , ltz sedan 1.4l turbo. This is also my first manual shift. The car after a week was more optimistic at 37mpg avg.

Is that a manual or auto and which engine?

That's not bad at all. Even if it's 2 MPG off or something you are still getting solid mid-30's driving lead-footed.

at least it's somewhat fun to drive......

I just dinged 10,000 since Sept.28 2011 I average about 33-34 mpg with the tip I got from this thread I have gotten a lot better mileage .

So, Got a couple thousand on our Trifecta Tune now and so far we have a lifetime average of 38mpg. This is 90% hwy travel on mixed 75/65 speedlimits.

Today I messed around a little after a fill up. 350miles on just under 9 gallons of gas equals 39mpg - exactly spot on with our average MPG meter. (nice to know ours is accurate). I would guess the one thing I should check, and have not calculated yet, is if our speedometer is accurate. I am too lazy to drag the GPS into the car. *sigh

ANYWAYS, I was checking out what kind of readings I would get at different speeds, and pretty much validated what Wasteoffilm said. When CC is set to 67mph, I get 45-46mpg. When I set CC to 70mph, I get 40-41mpg. When I am set to 80, I am getting 37-38.

Now that the thrill of 22psi is begging to wane on me, I am back to meticulously trying to coax that mpg gauge ever higher.

First 1000 miles

Just picked up a 2LTZ Sedan last week (1.8, Auto). Just passed 1000 miles this morning and my MPG through the first 1000 is 31.0. Below are my results by tank:

1st tank: Avg speed of 32.6 and mpg of 29.7. (Pretty much every type of driving you could imagine)
2nd tank: Avg speed of 51.6 and mpg of 31.7. (1/2 of the tank was 75 mph freeway, the rest was general city/highway)
3rd tank: Avg speed of 47.8 and mpg of 31.5 (1/2 of the tank was 75 mph freeway, the rest was general city/highway)
4th tank: Avg speed of 38.8 and mpg of 31.3 (Tank is about halfway gone)

I have to admit, that I am a little disappointed. My 2005 Cobalt Sedan (LS, Auto) that I traded in was getting an average of 32.5 doing the same things that are getting my Sonic 31.5. I drive very conservatively and do quite a bit of 45-60 two lane highway driving. I expected better in those cirucstances. With my Cobalt at 75 on the freeway I would get 37-40. My Sonic is pulling 32-33 at 75 on the freeway. Hoping to see some improvements as it breaks in...

P.S. Wish the 1.4T/Auto combo was available. I am curious to see if those numbers are significantly better. My wife refuses to drive a manual.

BTW, Spedometer and DIC reading are spot on when compared to GPS and manual calculations on refills.

Ya I have to say the A/T 6 suck as far as good gas mileage imho Chevy geared that tanny way yo lower it does not even use 2nd or 3rd gears really It can just run right into 6th gear at 45 - 50 mile per . that way to low for my taste .

2LT 1.8 automatic. Only 300 miles on it. The best average I've had is 22.2 with mixed city and hwy. Very disappointing. I'm 61 years old... I don't drive like a teenager. I'd dump it back on Chevy's lot if I could.
