    Im having the same issue but my solenoid is ok. I replaced timing cover gasket and timing belt.

    See if it will start by putting the throttle on the floor and cranking it over.

    The 1.8 are bad for the timing cover gasket to go bad. I just replaced the one on mine. Mine had oil getting in the oil.

    If its worse when you fill it up ,maybe you have a bad purge solenoid. If you remove it and can blow threw it its bad.

    I just put a new oil cooler and timing cover gasket on mine, but you have to remove the exhaust manifold to get the oil cooler. Best of luck.
