    2014 1.8L Automatic 75k miles First, the history to get to today: > On a ~4 hour drive the thermostat valve got stuck and most of the engine coolant boiled off; no temp light, but a check engine light came on upon restart > Had the thermostat assembly replaced > Started idling rough / bucking...

    I had the garage do a head gasket test, and it passed so now I don't know what's up and don't want to pay them to dig around if I can avoid it. Hence these posts to ask the right question to the right post area.

    That fixed the idle issue, but now when I'm on the highway and give it the ONIONS it hesitates and blows white smoke

    Turns out it was actually just a bad oil cap o-ring (I had also replaced the spark plugs)

    So I replaced the crankshaft cover/pcv valve combo (YAY GM)

    Then I started having rough / intermittent idle issues

    After that I had the thermostat assembly replaced and new coolant filled

    Coolant boiled off but I didn't get a check engine light about overheating or anything until I turned it back on after the trip
