    Very early strut failure

I finally figured out how to upload pictures. This picture is representative of every view of both front struts. I think the tech at the very least misdiagnosed the issue if there is one, and it worst flat out loud trying to get me to replace my 4 month old struts. It doesn't appear there is any...

    Very early strut failure

I've tried to upload pictures, but they are too large.

    Very early strut failure

I installed Monroe Quick Struts on my front end 4/2/24.about 6 months ago, along with control arms and sway bar links. It appears my struts are leaking. I don't abuse this money pit. Why did they fail? I thought Monroe was reputable. I did get alignment at least twice after installation. I'm...

    Valve cover brand

I saw the aluminum one also but it didn't have the best ratings. It also seems like I read that sometimes the metal ones don't have good fit but I don't know

    Valve cover brand

Are any of the non OEM GM valve covers dependable? After my fiasco with an expensive GM thermostat housing, I'm no longer convinced OEM is best. Thinking about Dorman or TRQ, but open to any brand, I guess. The Chinese metal thermostat housing was pretty solid.

    Should I keep my Sonic?

Is there an all-metal/all-aluminum radiator for the 1.8? I can't find one.

    Thermostat hose

I don't think the picture uploaded. Trying again. It's a pdf instead of jpg to make it smaller

    Thermostat hose

Not sure if I have an issue or not. My aftermarket temp gauge saved my bacon today. I've only had this for about 3 weeks but It beeped and alerted me to a temperature of 230. The idiot light had not come on and I suppose I would have kept driving until it was too late, probably overheated and...

    Oil cooler leak

Is there an upgraded oil cooler available, similar to the water pump and overflow reservoir upgrades? Also, does anyone recommend changing the manifold/cat converter since it has to come off anyway? I'm at 133k miles.

    Suspension questions

Also, will this tool work for the inner tie rods, or do I need a special tool at all?

    Suspension questions

I've decided to replace the front struts and the inner and outer tie rods. I suppose while I'm in there I might as well do the sway bar links as well since they are original and I am on 130,000 mi plus 30,000 unclocked towed miles. Assuming there is no damage to the control arms, I shouldn't...

Watch for this on new regulator

I replaced the regulator (actually whole regulator/motor assembly) today. As an aside, neither driver's side nor passenger side window switch would work. I assumed both wouldn't go bad at same time; therefore must be regulator. Replaced passenger side switch and it works (after it wouldn't work...

Are sonics known for ac problems?

I've had more than my share of troubles with my AC since new. It's a 2014 with 114k on it. But at 68k, I replaced a faulty line from compressor to condenser, which may have been the main trouble all along. 56k: replaced compressor and seals 63k: AC system flush 68k: replaced a faulty line from...

    Sonic Stall and shakes

I had the same issue. Almost always after long cruises on the interstate, and then coasting to a stop at the off ramp. I had already changed the part above after some code dropped, but I think it has happened since. Car usually starts right back up, so I haven't worried about it too much.

Lowest MPY Winner (Miles per Year) - Min 2 yrs

01/27/2015 Bought as a demo with 5300 miles. 07/25/2022 108159 miles So almost exactly 7.5 years, and I've put 13714/yr on it. About average. That will probably go up, as my work commute increased by 13 miles one way, 3-4 days a week. Larry

High Mileage Sonics - the longevity thread

Wife's 2013 Sonic LT got to 171000 and blew a head gasket so we junked it. Very disappointed. My 2014 LT currently has 108k.

Open Letter to Non-Enthusiast Sonic Owners

My mileage went down significantly with the Trifecta tune. Better throttle response, but I lost probably 3-6 mpg over a year's time. Had to remove the tune. I needed the gas mileage more. Also, I had really good luck with the original Hankook tires. I got 61140 miles PLUS another 15000+...

Sonic 1.8 timing belt replacement labor cost

For timing belt Tensioner, Idler Pulley, and water pump, I'm getting quotes from multiple shops in the 1200-1400 range, including the dealer. Several have given me a quote then reneged after realizing they needed a cam locking tool. I'm frustrated at an extra 400-500 for the water pump even...

Cooling problems 2013 Chevrolet Sonic LTZ 1.8

Were you having this symptoms before all the issues? I'm out of my league here. However, I'll throw this out there. Since the car won't go above 3000 RPM while in park, as designed, I wonder if there's some sort of shift sensor. Maybe look into that. It's a very dark shot in a very dark room.

    2015 Sonic LS Smoking Up
