I just bought 215/50R17 tires for my son's Sonic RS. They fit with no clearance issues even with spacers and lowering springs. Very small difference in diameter that won't impact the speedo much. They feel great driving the car also.

Shouldn't cause any problems as long as there are no leaks. That's what aftermarket intakes do.

There's a sensor in the passenger seat to detect whether someone is sitting in the seat or not. Is it possible someone removed the passenger seat and didn't plug the electrical connections back in?

Sounds like it might be the solenoid or starter. If it doesn't even click, sounds like the solenoid. Not sure about the cables getting that hot, are you sure you connected the polarities correctly? Positive to positive, and negative to chassis ground.
