    Front End Noise

Could be a rotor or drum rubbing a backing plate.

    Front End Noise

I swapped the intermediate shaft yesterday, and the noise seems to be gone. Need to test again with passenger load. Vibrations seem less, but not gone. There was moderate play in the shaft bearing, also a little play in the inboard cv, did not replace. Wheel bearing was tight.

    Front End Noise

I'm at 145k, and have noticed this now. Under load, any amount of left turn, scraping/grinding noise with shimmy/shake of the car also present. Gets worse with steeper hills and/or more passengers. Highway speeds mostly, doesn't care what gear its in. Doesn't feel like a CV or wheel bearing to...

LED Low beam install - Putco Nite Lux H11

Just installed the Putco Nite Lux H11 LED #270011 low beams in my car tonight, and I love them. I was able to get all of the wiring and heat sink tucked into the housings, and replace the caps. It was simple on the drivers side, but the passenger side fought me, I won though. If you do...

Temporary instrument and steering assist failure

I was in the middle of a trip to New Jersey on Friday, and the steering warning light pops on. I also notice that the tach and speedo are at 0, and the MPG went blank. The car was driving fine, so I waited until the next exit to inspect. I had my bluetooth obd and Torque active at the...

It's been 4 months since my last confession

Sup. I've been away since 5/24 and with 4000 unread posts, I was wondering if anyone could give me a rundown of what's new in the turbo manual world? Moved across the border into NH then, and was without internet for so long, it was hard to make the jump back here. I'll try not to do that...

Sound of stock exhaust 1.4T@5000 miles

My exhaust seems to have broken in at some point, and I have recently noticed a bit of a rumble. I decided to stick my new camera mount to the tailgate and go for a drive. I'm not sure if it's my tip causing it, but it whistles quite a bit. WOO WOO:banana: 1.4T just hit 5000 miles today...

PSA: Good deal on motor oil

I work for Pepboys and just noticed that we are running a closeout special on Peak's Dexos certified 5w30 oil. I believe it was normally up near $7 a quart, and we now have it for $3.20. I *assume* this is for all stores. Dexos oil is required for our cars, if you didn't know. There is one...

    Switched from 93 to 87

After running 93 octane exclusively since mid-December, I cheaped out and filled with Mobil 87. I was headed in a certain direction, with one bar left on the gauge, toward a gasbuddy report of $3.85 premium. I get there, and it's $4.21, but only $3.65 for regular. I've used Mobil...

    Configure your Sonic/Ultra wheels

I have no idea how they rank for quality, but I found Ultra has the Sonic hatch in their configurator. The sample car is shown with 14 different wheels, body in 6 different matte colors, with a custom vented hood, grille, splitter and drilled rotors. I will say that matte orange looks hot...

Does your engine stumble at ~1300rpm?

Anyone with a boost gauge care to check something for me? My engine has a fairly bad stumble or misfire at 1200-1400 steady rpm in neutral. I was wondering if this was the point when vacuum turns to boost? Also noticed that when you rev it up, and the rpm's fall, that something "kicks in" at...

    exhaust tip

After test fitting several different tips, I settled on the Alpena #15051. It is a chrome 2.25" in 3.5" out. It came with a worm gear clamp to secure, but I used a common 2.5" u-bolt stainless clamp instead. The tip fit secure enough on the tailpipe that a clamp was almost unnecessary due to...

    Shifting issues

This is my first turbo car, never driven one before, and have limited experience with manuals too. I have to admit, I've ground second and third a couple of times. It only happens when I'm driving like a menace, shifting at 5000rpm or higher, and rarely. I have had some recent issues with my...

    New owner/1LT Blk/Blk Turbo hatch

Hi, I'm Joe from NE Massachusetts. Just bought a Black on Black Turbo hatchback last night, 6 speed of course. So far, it's been fun and wonderful. I don't have many mods planned, possibly fog lights, and rainguards in the spring. Take care, hope to be an asset to the community.
