140,000 Miles OEM Brakes & Clunking Noise

Just put a new set of tires on. Shop said it needs brakes and rotors. Personally the car stops fine and we've never changed either in 140k miles.

My main concern is I hear a clunking noise when I go over a speed bump or basically any flat terrain to a raised terrain(pulling into my paved driveway from paved road). I feel this sound is abnormal but the shop only said it needs brakes and rotors but I feel like this sound is a bad wheel bearing or ball joints. Thoughts?opcorn:

P.s. could anyone recommend a good set of ceramic brakes and rotors.

I'd start with the swaybar endlinks, dirt cheap and will likely solve the clunking issue. $40 for a pair of Moog metal replacements, stockers are plastic.

Only have 55k on my Sonic so haven't done brakes yet.

Swaybar endlinks for sure. Pretty much every front wheel drive car will need these replaced a time or two.

Sway bar urethane or rubber bushings wear as well and can bind and make a clunk sound as well. To find out it they need replacement, spray the sway bar bushings with a silicone lube and drive it for awhile. If the sound is diminished or gone, they may also need replacing.

I've got a clunking sound coming from the right front that I haven't investigated yet, I do have Moog end links already so either that one has gone bad or maybe it's the ball joint on the lower control arm. When the weather gets a little warmer I'll look into it, it's not bugging me that bad yet.

I was getting a very similar sound on mine last 6-7mo's. When I got my new snow tires that mechanic told me after that the lower ball joints on both control arms where lose and will need to be replaced.

I would have done the work myself but I wasnt in the mood this time around to personal matter.

After they replaced them with new lower control arms, also had them install new moog stabilizer links. This fixed the issue while also tightening up the front.. didnt realize it had been that loose for so long.
