2013 Sonic AC not working

Hello,

I have a 2013 Chevy Sonic and the AC stopped working about a month ago. I took it to the dealership and they wanted to replace the compressor sight unseen, but I have heard that these cars sometimes have trouble with the thermostat.

Does anyone have any experience or wisdom with this?

You most likely have a bad A/C compressor clutch which is not engaging when it needs to. Any dealership or repair shop would first connect gauges to the A/C system to see if there is enough refrigerant in the system. If there is enough refrigerant, the A/C compressor clutch may not engage because of a faulty A/C switch.

The A/C in these cars will also not work if the coolant temperature gets too high, which can happen if the electric cooling fan quits. However, with the engine cold, the A/C would work until the coolant got too hot.
