2014 Hatchback - hitch and carrier

I bought myself several things for Christmas. Among them were a hidden hitch #60295 and a Curt cargo carrier #C18145 from etrailer.com. I just installed them today and I couldn't be more pleased. Installation was fairly easy and assembling and installing everything took about an hour and a half. The basket is a bit tight going into the hitch, but with some white grease and determination, it finally went in and I can pull it out with only about 5 curse words. I'd rather have it nice and tight than sloppy so I'm very happy with it. Now I can haul gas cans, coolers etc... up to my camp without putting them inside the car. I also bought the trailer wiring kit in case I want to pull a small trailer with my lawn tractor on it but I didn't install the wiring yet. The roof rack and fairing come next week

Just hope you don't have to climb a short incline. I'm sure that basket would be dragging the ground behind you. That basket would drag if I left it on while pulling into my driveway. I would think they'd offer a version with an angled mount to raise the basket a few more inches.

One of the nice things about putting one of these on the hatchback is that the rear wheels are so far toward the rear of the car that you don't really have to worry about that. Most small sedans have 18 to 24 inches of rear quarter panel and trunk behind the wheels. So in the end, the end of my basket is about where a bumper would be on your average sedan.

I installed this at my Dad's house where his driveway goes from level to steep in nothing flat and it didn't drag there so I think it'll be alright.

Very nice. I've been thinking about getting me a carrier like that. I've already got the hitch installed and I carry my MTB on the hitch-mounted rack.

Carrying coolers and some weather-impervious gear would be great. It would leave more room in the car for the dog and other stuff.

I'm so gonna have to look into that! Don't care much for the actually basket, but the tow hitch! So much potential!
