Sonic didn't make it to the top list, unlike last year. Looks like they raised their requirements a lot, specifically in two new directions: the small overlap front collision test, and the number of crash-prevention tech available in the car. The Sonic did poorly in the small overlap front test last year, which wasn't reflected in the overall score; this year, looks like it was. The absence of autobrakes seems to have been another reason the Sonic didn't end up at the top.
I think the Sonic is still a pretty safe car (we read a lot of "my Sonic saved my life" stories on this forum), but personally, the small overlap test worries me, since those collisions do happen. I wonder why they didn't count lane assist as a safety measure, since it's an option on the 2014 Sonics. I have to say that the autobrakes is a great feature to have (though probably a pain in stop and go traffic).

I'm happy for the Spark, though. The only tiny car to get a top rating!
