Hello guys, I've been following the forum for a while now, and unfortunately, it's come time for me to post. After 143,xxx miles, my 2012 1.8 5 speed finally died. The Final drive in the transmission started grinding, and i pulled into my own front yard in 4th gear. Prior to that, trans was whining for about 100 miles real loud and I had no option but to keep pressing home.
Fast forward two months, I've finally located a trans near me. its a 5 speed out of the 2015 1.8 car and I bought it online because its 45 minutes from the shop where my car is at (dads shop). So my question. Every where i look, i find 2012-2013 and 2014-2015 being grouped when discussing these m26(f17) 5 speed transmissions. What are the differences between the two? will i need a different DMF? Here are my findings below, I would love it if someone can confirm or correct me.
RockAuto shows a 14 tooth spline on every Clutch kit for the 1.8 from 2012 -2015 and shows a LUK DMF133 flywheel for 2013-2015s
HOWEVER, RockAuto also shows 3 different single mass flywheel options for all 1.8s from 2012-2015. Most common is the ACDELCO 55587031 or PLATINUM DRIVELINE FW808.
Now to compare, the 1.4 MT in 2015 shows a 20 spline kit and only Dual mass flywheels as an option for those engines, Again, Luk DMF133 and another similar from platinum driveline.
So my assumption is, If I have a 5 speed trans coming out of a 2015 1.8 going into a 2012 1.8 that also had the 5 speed, I should be good to just buy the 14 tooth splined clutch kit. And if i put a single mass flywheel on it, the car will drive better with the exception of more vibrations/touchier shifts.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can clear this up!
