2nd Gear: Jerk and pull

I have a 1.4 6-speed manual and have been driving it for almost a month. For some reason when I go from neutral to 2nd gear anywhere between 10mph-20mph the car seems to pull back and yank me forward. Its as though I were throwing it in 2nd when i'm going 35 or 40mph, but i'm not. I use to drive a 2000 GT Mustang so i've had to adapt to a smaller and lighter clutch and transmission but it only happens in 2nd and its annoying. Anyone having the same problem or have any suggestions??

I would notice that when going from Neutral to 2nd if I'm going 20mph, but if I'm in neutral at 20mph, I usually just go to 3rd.

I wouldn't expect a violent jump at 10mph, but try giving it just a little bit of throttle before letting off the clutch in 2nd.

15-20 is my third gear speed. 10-15 is second, 20-28 is fourth, 35+ is sixth, 0-10 is first, and 28-35 is fifth, in no particular order.

Are you matching revs? The sonic has a multy inertia flywheel, not matching will cause it to jerk bad. Without going into great detail on how this works, the flywheel is heavier at idle and low revs.

Good info, there. I've noticed I really have to wait for the motor to allow down when shifting to second and third. I shifted my big rig faster than I do my car. I'll have to read up on how it works.

I'm growing more accustomed to it now. 2nd IS more or less 10-15mph from neutral, if you want a smooth transition. And if not you do need a good amount of throttle. Either its starting to break in better or i'm getting more used to it. Other than that though, its very fun to drive and love my sonic!
