I checked the "stuttering" thread, and I don't think that's what mine does, or has. It starts and runs fine. It's a 1.8 manual, 2012.
Had it since new, has just over 100,000 km. Recently, if going back a couple of months is recent enough, it started falling on its face right around 3000 rpm in 2nd gear.
If I was self diagnosing it (well, guess that's what I'm going to do right here) I'd say throttle position sensor. It's like a sharp kick in the back, it drops power for a split second - feels like you lifted your foot off the pedal and then quickly jabbed it back on to continue on your merry way. It does it mildly a little lower and higher in the rev range, but not like at about 3000 where it's a solid kick in the nether regions.
It's slightly noticeable in other gears, but just at the point where you can sorta feel it. As if it was being choked of air - but the air filter isn't that old, so I know that's not it. You'd probably miss it if you weren't paying attention or knew about it. 2nd gear though, it's as sharp as if someone had turned it off and on again.
So...anyone else ever experienced this? Was it TPS? I feel like it'd be the place to start, and probably still cheaper if I'm wrong and it's something else than paying $60-100 for someone to run a scan on it only to tell me, yup, it's TPS...and then have to buy a TPS, too.
Who likes wasting money, right? I mean that's why we bought Sonics...
