40.9 mpg rs?

I drive the same 160 mile route 3 to 4 times a week.
Yesterday morning I filled up at Sams Club and drove to Loveland and back (168 miles) and according to the DIC I was at 29.2 when I parked. This morning I taped up my upper grill and after letting the car warm up I was at 28.3 and I took off on my trip. When I arrived at my destination I was 30.9 mpg. I didnt have enough fuel to make it home so I filled up again at Sams (different city same octane) and headed home. When I got to my office I only showed using 2 bars on the fuel gauge so I decided to pop into the gas station and fill up here is what I had:

81 miles
1.98 gallons
6.25 cost
3.159 per gallon
91 oct

That calculates to 40.909

all 4 legs of the trip were with cruise set on 72 mph I drove the same exact route all 4 times. I even stopped at starbucks to get a free large water on both return trips to make it as even as I could. Temps were comparable as both morning trips were below freezing and both return trips were in the mid 40's

This is a 10 mpg increase. I tripled checked math and made sure my numbers in my driver diary app were correct.

FWIW I my DIC has always been within .8 of my calculations except this last time it was off by 7.5mpg

The 4th and 5th tanks were the exact same trips back to back exception was the 4th tank was at avg highway speed of 82 mph

I am driving the same route again tomorrow for the most part except going 10 miles further on the highway.

I will see where I am at after my return trip.

Not sure what the speed limits are in Texas but here both I25 and the toll road I drive are 75 and at 72 I am in the way almost. The toll road not as bad because there is way less traffic but the interstate becomes a bit crowded.

But ya I agree I would like to see what I could do at 65 or even 55. When I drove my Zo6 from Boise to Portland I drove 55 the whole way. (Dont speed in Oregon lots of $$$) I got 38 there and 36 back out of a 500hp V8 I thought that was pretty badass so yeah I understand slower helps.

Agreed, slow down and you can get better mpg, also you may have finally broken in the motor but I doubt it would have happened that fast. How many miles are on your car now?

1131 miles on it now

I forgot to ad that at 752 miles I changed the oil to Mobil 1 5w30 Dexos and a wix oil filter.

I bought a OBDII blue tooth deal from amazon but it didnt work. Torque would connect but it wouldnt read the ECM. Hopefully with that I can fine tune my driving a little more. Now that I am quickly approaching 1500 miles I am going to get the trifecta tune and see how it does with that. Then its on to the intake/exhaust and I also want to mess a little more with the rear hatch and maybe some aerodynamic devices to clean up airflow.
I also need to find a way to clean up airflow around the mirror, when its rainy/slushy the mirror builds up so much crap that I cant see out of it. I am thinking a vortex generator on the side of it like they sell for tractor trailers to get some different flow around them.

if you decide you want a normal hatch spoiler, I would happily pay shipping both ways for a trade.

BUT, the tune will boost your MPG if you can keep your foot off the go fast button, so look forward to that.

Did you use the EXACT same pump?

Refueling after 2 gallons is not an accurate way of calculating MPG. Especially if you are using different pumps, as each one will shot off at different levels of full.

Averaging your miles after full tank refills is a better and more accurate practice.

This isn't directed at you preloader, it's just an expansion of your comment.

What you should do to get a truly accurate representation is to hold a static routine. Try to refuel at the same station and same pump on either to or from work when your tank may not support another full trip. You have to consider engine warmup time etc.

Here's my basic routine I follow:
Commute to work and return is a 98.4mi trip
Every 3rd trip home, midway, I filled up at the same pump

I can squeeze 4 trips into one tank, but I choose not to when calculating a solid average.
