I keep hearing an occasional member saying he pulled his ABS fuse. What is this and what does pulling it out do? help would be appreciated.

It will disable all the nannies like traction control and abs so its up to the driver and not a computer

The fuse you would want to pull is the top left fuse in the panel under the hood near the battery. You can leave the fuse in the fuse puller while its out, There will be warning lights on the cluster the entire time its out and the car will beep and make noises at start up.

Aaronalde8 as others have pointed out it disables several traction based driving aids. ABS, Traction Control, and Stability control to be exact.
The reason some members are doing this (myself included) is because when aggresively taking off and shifting gears the computer intervenes and tempararily cuts power. It is very bad during the 1st to 2nd shift, it feels like the car just falls on its face for 1-2secs before putting the power back down. Not only is it bad for going fast several of us feel it is dangerous, like when trying to merge or get out of the way oif someone blows a redlight etc.
Turning off TC and STM by holding the console button down for ~10 secs helps but does not fully eliminate the computers intervention. A few members can't tolerate the nannies stepping in and pulling the fuse eliminates the cars ability to interfere, its all up to the driver to control wheel spin.
The downside is that pulling the ABS fuse also disables the anti-lock brakes and illuminates 3 lights on the dash, as well as making a chimeing noise on startup.
So there is a risk to it, no more ABS. I STRESS that anyone that does this knows that if you mash on the brakes they will lock up, makeing turning while braking much more difficult and possibly putting the car in a spin, so its a do at own risk mod.
I myself can't stand the nannies stepping in and as I'm not a panic brake masher my fuse is removed until the snow starts to fall.

Generally speaking I like the nannies. TC and SC as well as ABS, not that I didn't learn to drive without them, but I don't mind the assistance. I do, however, enjoy a nice WOT run up on ramps, and turning them off for this purpose, when I'm not likely to need them and at any rate am hyper aware of what's going on and the fact that they aren't there, works for me. I pulled the ABS fuse and drove around like that for a little while, but decided I'd rather have the help if an emergency arises.
Someone (Preloader?) said he was going to post a writeup on installing an ABS fuse off switch. This would be ideal, to my thinking, something that can be turned off instantly (not the 10 seconds it takes to turn off SC via the TC button) for a launch, and then turned back on for normal driving... only we aren't even sure yet that it Can be turned back on mid drive, unless I've missed the post that answered that question.

I whipped up a quick wiring schematic of an ABS on/off relay.
The component in the center is a standard, common 12v automotive relay.
The switch to ground at the bottom (in the cab) is any SPST switch.
You can burn out a fuse by shorting it between + / -. Then push it back into the fuse terminal with bare ended wires (orange in pic) soldered to the back of the fuse or just inserted in with the spades of the fuse.

I've been hitting the traction control button. So far it's resolved the issue with the car being slowed to a crawl on fast starts, so it does indeed seem to disable the major annoyances for me. ABS gets to stay on.
I just wish the button could be programmed in reverse - off until I want it.

The traction control in this car is awful. I wish I could get rid of it completely. However I'd like to keep ABS. The traction control cuts power at exactly the wrong times when I need it to get around in the snowy wilderness of PA...and holding down the TCS button for 15 seconds just to turn off both the TCS and Stability control is just f-ing annoying.

the worst part about holding it down to disable it is that it doesn't fully disable it! I got tired of it kicking in after I shut it off and pulled the fuse. This is my first car with ABS and it never kicked in before I pulled the fuse so I wont miss it one bit.

ABS can be useful here. There are wicked hills here (one of them being my horribly Pittsburghy driveway of death) where it has come in handy many times.
It's come on a few times when supposedly "off", unless the rev limiter on the 1.8 is set to 4500...
From what I understand, the button will disable the brake-based aspect of TC but the computer can still cut engine power under certain circumstances if the sensors indicate traction loss. Pulling the fuse gets rid of it entirely. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That very well could be true, I rarely need more than 4500rpm to get moving. I hadn't considered there was also a rev limiter in the equation in addition to the brake assist.

That's because the 1.8 doesn't have any power to begin with.
On a serious note. My abs/tc fuse has been removed since 500-600 miles. I felt it made driving the car dangerous when it would cut power at the slightest of spinning.
