I am a new member to this group and hope that someone out there can help me with my problem.
My 2013 Sonic never gave me problems since I bought it in 2015 until a water pipe burst inside the engine compartment recently (water return pipe from the heater inside the cabin going to the thermostat). I ordered the pipe from the dealers and replaced it after about a week after the incident. The car was stationery at the time.
The following day my wife drove the car to work and it went into limp mode and the ABS light came on. She switched the car off and started again after about 20 seconds and the car was fine. It ran without any issue for about a week before the same symptoms occurred again. This time it did so for a couple of times in a row. Every time she switched the car off and restarted after a couple of seconds it seemed fine.
Thereafter it continued to do this at random intervals and seemed to be getting worse. I decided to take it to an auto electrician for repairs (on advice of the dealer since they tested the ABS system and wheel sensors and found no fault). The auto electrician ran a diagnostic test and it picked up the accelerator pedal position sensor as a possible cause for this. They did what they called a "coding procedure between the accelerator pedal sensor and the car's ECU" (don't know if this was genuine or just some story they made up). After that the car was fine, until two days later when it started going into limp mode with the ABS light on again.
The car went back to the same auto electrician and again the same error came up on the diagnostic test. They were convinced that the accelerator pedal was the culprit and said I should buy another one, which I did. They installed it and again did the coding procedure after which the car ran fine, until two days later when it went into limp mode again and the ABS light comes on.
I don't know if they really know what they are doing since I believe that, when the pipe burst, water go into somewhere it shouldn't have and that there might be a connector that's not making proper contact or something simple that is causing this. The fact that it occurs at random intervals with no specific pattern gives me the idea that it might me a bad connection.
I am getting desperate since it's costing me money with no solution in sight. Any advice from those who might have experienced the same problem or might know where to start looking for this fault?
