is there any way to add a aftermarket subwoofer to a stock sonic head unit

Yes sir.
You can wire in a "line out converter" which would tap into your speakers. There is guides about this on yt and some other audio forums

fairly simple with a line out converter... took a friend and I do a 0aug setup in my car with sound deadening in about an hour. we do consider ourselves fairly knowledgeable about stereos though.

I just had the Kicker Bass Station added. Does a great job. Knocked out the need for a line converter, or at least a separate line converter.
