affordable replacement rotors

So my Sonic's rotors seem to be warped at 10,000 miles. There is a noticeable shudder whenever I brake. It becomes quite pronounced and vibrates the steering wheel when braking downhill at higher speeds. It's becoming quite annoying. I've heard that GM is notorious for using crappy/thin stock rotors, however I also do lots of city driving. What kind of aftermarket replacement rotors are you guys using? What have your results been? I'm not looking for performance or any crossdrilled/slotted setups, just budget replacement front rotors that will hold up reasonably well.

I've noticed a vibration under hard braking as well (it even shakes my GPS rather violently). This is something that has developed over time.

However, my parents Cavalier's brakes have never been particularly smooth. It now has 220+ km on it and the rotors are being replaced for the first time. I'm thinking little of the "problem".

since they're new, you can have them turned for much less than new.They'd be thick enough still for 1 or 2 turnings... buy you some time.

They should cut them for you once under warranty anyway since your mileage is low. I dunno if it's worth fighting over, since replacement rotors can be had for under $100 anyway, but I had to machine my cobalt SS rotors at 7-8K miles because they were warped. Was done under warranty. The cutoff is usually 8k miles for some reason though.

I drive like a nut and they warped again shortly, upgraded to some cryo treated GMPP drilled/slotted rotors and never had an issue. In fact, I ran three sets of Hawk HPS pads across those rotors and they still were great.

if you are not abusing your brakes by riding them when going down hill instead of downshifting. Riding them when coming to a stop for a long long time thus overheating the rotors then this is what I would do.

first I would suspect either a faulty rotor or stuck caliper piston. I would approach the dealership with this issue and plead my case. see if they will cover it to keep a customer. 10k with normal driving those brakes are just broke in... good luck. if not check schucks for there better quality rotors. just bought some for my jeep. but then you still have a newer car. don't go cheap on brakes. you will regret it.... not much difference between the whitebox brakes at the store and there upper end over the counter brakes in price. get the best you can afford.

You can get decent quality rotors for about $50 shipped online (each), if all else fails.

If your driving environment/style leads you to regularly warp rotors, i'd suggest you get a set and have them cryo treated or buy them already treated. It helps smooth out the grain structure and prevent hot spots, which lead to warping. Personal experience, it makes a difference.

Turns out that you're exactly right. I called the dealer yesterday expecting an answer of "Hell No" when I asked about rotor coverage. Much to my suprise, they said that they'll cover it. I'm bringing the car in next week.:banana:

believe it or not I like cross drilled rotors and slotted they get rid of heat asap.... they can be found online on ebay,rock auto and I have had great luck with them.. on my 06 gto,my 08 hhrss, put a good ceramic pad with them and youll be good to go....:banana:

Your dealer should continue to machine or replace your rotors until the point that your brake pads are worn down to where they need to be replaced.

But to answer the original question, I believe Napa has front rotors for about $45 each
