If the cat is cogged and there is sufficient back pressure, you will have to be concerned about the stuff that is clogging the CAT getting sucked back into the engine.
Don't run it further get the cat off and see if that resolves the issue
Same thing happened to my mother in law's Lincoln Continental - I took it to a muffler shop, had them just chop the piece out and weld in a straight pipe. Its still quiet since its got the mufflers still.
