Who's done it?
Obviously the cost is higher and is much more involved than replacing with an auto. I bought a "last year's model" 2017 Sonic RS at great price but all they had is autos. I've dealt with the fineky torque converter and shifting issues with it for 76k miles now and I would like to manual swap it. Because I have so many miles on it, it is worth far less than I owe on it so it would not be cheaper just to sell and buy a manual. The target audience for selling this car would be extremely slim.
If anyone has done it or knows someone who has, any input on what all is needed to make it work would be helpful. Some things are obvious (pedals, shifter, clutch, etc.)but others may be car specific. I have done some searching on the forums and all I have found is manual to better manual swaps. If there is a post on auto to manual already link it below.
All that being said, when swapping from the 6t40 is the MZ0 the only option? I have also looked into the F40 which would need axles since they're different spline counts and lengths. The peak torque on the F40 is only marginally better than the MZ0 trans anyways so that would not be worth it. Assuming a realistic end goal for these cars is 300+hp and torque with a big turbo, are there any other options that will fit? My trans is getting worse and worse and if I can start assembling everything I need while I still have a working one that would be great.
