Been trolling, looking for opinions

Hey guys, I've been on the forum for a while and have thought about a getting a sonic for a while now. I have never bought a new car so it will be a new experience that im still not to sure about. I have been into Nissans for about 8 years. (90s sentra se-rs and 240s) Ive looked at the versa but the 1.4 turbo in the sonic has caught my interest,plus i have a small connection at a chevy dealership.

My questions:
If i do for a Sonic should i just wait for the RS to come out?

Ive read the RS 6-speed transmission is going to be geared better. Is the the other one geared too long?

Any opinion is welcome

I had an RB25 s14 at one time and do miss it but the wife is pushing me to get something new that wont mod as much haha. Im putting together a b13 with a SR20VE right now

Personally I like the current six speeds gearing, i'd actually like a little taller sixth.. the gear ratios are pretty even and a redline shift will leave the engine right in the middle of the torque curve on the next gear.

The big plus I see with the current trans ratios over the RS's is cruiseing. Right now 70mph = 2100 or so rpm the rs will be significantly higher. I think any acceleration gains will be minimal and mpg drops will be moderate, not worth the trade off in my book

That's just my opinion. Have you trolled thru the transmission forum? A few members have plotted gear charts for all the currents trans and there is one for the RS as well.

As for the original question, I like the RS differences and if I had a choice between the LTZ and the RS I would go for the RS in a heart beat.

Of course, not even GM would so defy common sense as to offer a colof called RALLY Yellow in the none sporting version and not offer it in the Rally Sport version.

Or so I believe. I think.

Maybe the Rally Yellow will come with the 1.6T in the fall of 2015 for the 2016 model year.

When I traded in my Corvette, I knew the Sonic would be gutless and boring to drive, and I was right. Now that I've done some work, mine is not boring to drive, nor gutless.

I am wondering if someone who has not regularly driven a C5 or C6 generation Corvette might have a different concept of what is boring to drive, or gutless?

You might be on to something.

In the opposite direction though, to think the Sonic has loads of power you would need to be coming from a 63 Opel Kadett.

I know the sonic is would be alot slower that my sentra. I'm just hoping it would still be fun in some twisty mountain roads. Again, nothing impressive, just quick enough to have fun.

I feel like the Sonic is a blast to drive, I've driven plenty of big power cars and even more econoboxes and the Sonic hit it great sweet spot. I kind of consider it to be the modern day "Pony Car". It's a smaller and lighter car with the motor of a bigger car in it. It's fun and easy to mod and it has a very aggressive look to it.

As long as you do not buy the sonic thinking it is a racecar. You will be happy. The car is peppy, and handles better than it should. It's a great car. But by no means a racecar

I still think if your into performance The best option is to buy a used pony car or corvette and keep the sonic as a DD. that's why most of my mods will be appearance. I don't really see the value in performance mods with the sonic, but thats personal preference I guess.

The best phrase I've heard is, "The poor man's GTI." Especially with a tune, it is close. I used to own a GTI.
